List fails without Dynasty's infamous "Moldavian Massacre".  Not to mention any and every series that had a season finale cliffhanger which unfortunately turned out to be a series finale.

This midseason finale from 2015 shocked fans by ending with the character Sam calling out for his mother as a zombie horde descended, drawing attention to himself and Rick Grimes. Cut to black. Great way to go out.

The following episode - aired the following year - picks up moments later, revealing that the flesh-eating walkers couldn't care less and our heroes escape intact. No harm done.

Right, no harm done. I mean except Sam and Jessie getting eaten and Carl losing an eye.

The X-files listing in TFA was officially eclipsed by the season 10 cliffhanger where everyone is dying from an alien virus (including Mulder, who is at death's door) and then a UFO appears over the bridge they are stuck on and is about to vaporize everyone and then... it's over.

Season 11 opener.... it was all in Scully's head.  Fark that.  Worst cop out ever when you have written yourself into a corner.

Aside from that, S11 has been good.  The Darin Morgan episode was farkin gold.  Even if you gave up on the X-Files years ago, it's a great stand-alone episode that is worth watching (S11E04- The Lost Art of the Forehead Sweat).

Soap. The show was cancelled so they never resolved it.

I am not a fan of cliff hangers.  They make a show feel interrupted at the most interesting part, which usually makes me care about the show less. Sometimes I even forget that there was a cliff hanger when it comes back on.  So, I spend the first episode back trying to figure out what things I simply don't remember happening at the end of last season, and what I have to guess happened between seasons.

Between that and shiatty resolutions to things, I often stop watching stuff the first episode back, because I just don't care any more.

This is probably a that's-the-joke, but that might be one of the few shows where an unresolved cliffhanger would be an entirely appropriate ending.

For this very reason, every season should end on a cliffhanger.

I've made people watch those episodes. Generally they've not seen Millennium so I'll give them a very lean intro and just let it play. Then I'm usually asked if they can borrow the whole series and I warn them not to expect the rest of the episodes to be that well done.

They get to watch "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me" and that episode is another favorite.

Most cliffhangers (and soapy shows that just leave things hanging for next week) are just about the fact that the writing sucks. You're not watching because it's good writing, you're just hoping for something good to come. This has bled over into cinema, with Star Wars not being a series of films, but just a soap opera.

The good ones exist, but in general, they're used in good series where there's a big moment, and sparingly. There's a couple in Frasier, but they both warranted a cliffhanger and clearly, the writers had both parts worked out.

You guys would've loved this show. There was three separate ongoing stories in each episode. One a lady detective, one science fiction western and one with Draculy. Each story line ended with a cliffhanger each week.

Not many actual cliffhangers in that list. It was more a list of times the author was disappointed some character didn't actually die.

Yeah.  Except that it did so poorly that NBC pulled the plug before airing the final episode.  So perpetual cliffhanger!  I enjoyed it.  But I was 11 so maybe it doesn't hold up so well...

Less prominent than most of what's being discussed, but Breakout Kings was a fun little "suspend your disbelief" non-cops-help-the-cops show. Where they accidentally left it at the end of Season 2 with the cancellation was so insanely cliff-hanging, it was almost a perfect ending for the series. (In the same vein of the end of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels)

(Just RTFA a little bit to realize it's actually about terrible resolutions to cliffhangers, and this one wasn't resolved. But too bad, I'm subjecting you all to my post anyway.)

Seriously? That's the cliff hanger they had a problem with from Walking Dead? What about the dumpster fire fake out with Glenn? That's what really started the downhill slide of TWD.

I actually looked forward to the one they referred to, it was a favorite scene of mine taken directly from the comic.
