Blocked at work, but I'm presuming you're talking about the Sachler's, subby.   I hope that rot in hell.   They were losing their patent on MS Contin  (time-release morphine), and needed another cash cow, so they came up with Oxycontin.

They should be in prison for the shiat they did.

Civil asset forfeiture sounds like a swell idea for these drug dealers. They are responsible for the equivalent of multiple 9-11s per year.

I hope that the lawyers can prove them guilty on this - only then will all these states with opioid crisis task forces "suddenly" become aware of the root cause of this mess. Until that point, there's no telling what started the opioid crisis....

They could be the test subjects for the endurance field trials for the Mark III "Bubba" robot male sex doll with the "Godzilla" artificial penis attachment. They have to see how many weeks it can continuously perform.

Heroin is two joined morphine molecules, hence, "diamorphine."  Opium is the collected sap of the opium bearing poppy, and contains compounds like codeine, morphine, thebaine, narcotine, and one other (and occasionally trace amounts of others including diamorphine).

Crude heroin production can be achieved simply by just a few chemical processes using raw opium but the results are a mix of compounds, chiefly heroin and unreacted morphine.

It is far easier to make more complicated opioids starting from opium than a complete organic synthesis.

The more you know. :)

No argument there. It is just that I have followed the story of Oxycontin since its Inception, and am keenly aware of the history of the Sackler family. I think they are human piles of garbage who put making money,  albeit billions of dollars, over the welfare of the people of the world, knowing the entire time exactly what they were doing.

I don't know if it was a pill designed for a high liability for abuse, but some Farkers probably remember OxyContin without the gel matrix, the instantly abusable kind. It took public outcry, death after death, and govt action to get it reformulated.

It seemed like an obvious oversight. Lots of painkillers were like that and some still are - what were they thinking?

They held up doctors at gunpoint to prescribe their drugs, did they?

Fark has assured me over the year that the War on Drugs is a terrible thing, and that if drugs were legal carefully made and pure (or of known strength), all problems associated with them would fade away. And now Fark is getting all pissy about a wholly legal prescription drug. This is the future you wanted, people.

Subby, all heroin is synthetic. Diacetylmorphine isn't found in poppy plants.

Heroin is not two morphine molecules joined together. It is Diacetylmorphine, having two acetyl groups on carbons 1 and 6. It gets metabolized into morphine and monoacetylmorphine and a bunch of compounds.

Doubt it, but the deliberate misinformation campaign that their drug reps engaged in was criminal.  Do some research,  and look into it.

So why is it still prescribed in such large quantities - are doctors indifferent to research?

Anyway, I've been told repeatedly that it's the criminalizing of drugs which causes all the problems. Oxycontin is professionally made and completely legal. Why the hell shouldn't people have as much of it as they want? It's their business what they put in their bodies ...

People simply need to be made aware of the risks of addiction.

I was prescribed 2 weeks of OxyContin after a c section and was hooked within a few days. I did not know I could get addicted so quickly.  I went cold turkey.

If I could take 10 years off my life in exchange for a permanent supply of OxyContin, I would do it, because for the first time I was genuinely happy. It's a very powerful drug. If I could get it legally and take it everyday, I would. But everyone should be informed that it is highly addictive up front.
