The NYPD gets little exercise.  They usually just choke you to death or shove a broom handle up your ass.

New Yorkers are so lucky. That usually costs extra and they get it for free.

"I went from 250 to 395 pounds in one year - I guarantee you, as small as you are, you eat more than me," he told a Post reporter Tuesday.
Vega's lawyer, Warren Roth, said it's clear that the job of a cop isn't conducive to healthy eating.
"It's easier to pull into McDonald's and wolf something down when you're busy,'' Roth said.

145 pounds gained in a year, at 3500 calories per pound, is 507,500 excess calories (on top of his normal intake and expenditure). That works out to 1390 excess calories per day.

Coincidentally, a Big Mac, large fry, and large coke is equal to 1340 calories.

Eating too much makes you fat.  You can not gain weight if you consume less calories than you burn.  If you can, we should talk.  I'd like to patent your body as a perpetual motion device.

Truck drivers, police, corrections officers.
Working odd shifts and mandatory odd hours causes the body to produce cortisol, which make it think it's in a constant state of distress. Cortisol makes you want to eat and so you do. Never mind the usual stressors of the work in general and generally poor dietary health education most people have. Institutional cultures of lethargy and sloth, sitting for long periods, these things will kill you eventually one way or another.

Sleep at night and lose weight, people.

Somebody gets fat because their lifestyle is too sedentary and/or they eat too much. I very much doubt being a cop has the slightest thing to do with.

2018-02-14 11:23:37 AM
Most, but not all, departments have gyms for their officers.  Hell, some departments even pay you overtime for working out in said gyms.  I do not know if the NYPD does this, but in my opinion it is generally a better investment for the agency than armored vehicles and mobile command centers.

2018-02-14 11:24:48 AM
well by that logic the cops should be working to eliminate the societal / financial pressures that can predispose someone to crime, right?

Fat boy is a joke.  I laugh at this guy.  What an aers.

Guess what Officer Corpulent?  I'm 45, and been doing police work for over 20 years.  I'm 6' 3" and weight 230lbs.  I don't work out (I should), and seen some shiatty stuff in my time.  None of it made me "obese".  I watch what I eat (eee GADS, I plan my meals by putting healthy things in my bag before I start my shift like fruit, lean meats, yogurt, and complex carbohydrates), avoid coffee and alcohol, and when I'm not working, if people ask me I tell them I work for the government and it involves computers (technically true).

I'm here for the pension at this point.  Of course LardLad is making about $1600 more a month drawing flies than I am working six days a week.

Trying to figure out if this guy was more of a wart on the aers of the world in a blue suit or a track suit.

Not walking away from a quesadilla when you're full is what made you fat, not the job.  Sorry, buddy.

Go be a fat do nothing looser.

Blackout shades?

I have plenty of co workers who were on permanent overnights and were in decent shape.  And, if you're on permanent overnights after 20 years, you're either a total farkup, or hiding from your wife.

Food = fat.  No one ever ever EVER got fat in a concentration camp or Japanese POW camp.  "Oh, I was on the Battan Death March, and the stress made me fat."  Said no one.

My guess is that Marines tend to eat provided meals as opposed to swinging through the McDonald's drive through. Perhaps the NYPD should provide meals for their employees?

"I'm not a diabetic. ... I don't eat nothing sweet.

"I have a green tea at 7 in the morning with honey.
(honey is sweet.. it's a sugar)
At 9, I have a fruit.(also sugar)
At noon, I have 4 ounces of lean meat with carrots or broccoli or cauliflower,'' he insisted.(good for you!)
"Then at 4 o'clock I eat the same thing.(also good)
Then before the night, I will eat an apple or a banana.(more sugar, also, stop eating before bed)
I snack on peanuts. Not sugar.(no, you do eat sugar, also peanuts are high in fats)
"My cheat days are Mondays."(I bet they are)

The sugars are making you fat, the fats are making you fat, your cheat days are making you fat.
 because you don't exercise.
If you eat as little as you say, then someone is bringing you your food in bed and you never get up.

Well if he has diabetes he's certainly not helping himself. I see plenty of overweight people at my office daily, having a smoothie cuz they're on a "diet", when their drink alone has more than the recommended daily amount of carbohydrates.
You can eat high fat and be thin. You can eat high carbohydrates and be thin. You can't have both. This guy clearly does both.

I was in a car accident, got a TBI and can't do about 75% of what I used to do for work.  However, I can still push a broom at minimum wage so am ineligible for SSI/disability. Never mind reduced cognitive function, migraines every day, etc.  We've been slowly depleting our savings for the last 18 months to make up the difference in money.

Cry me a river with your 48K pension for not taking care of yourself.

I saw a lot of that in fast food, people love things they perceive as healthy even if fried chicken would be better for them than what they ordered.

I went from 250 to 395 pounds in one year - I guarantee you, as small as you are, you eat more than me," he told a Post reporter Tuesday, insisting it was the slew of health problems caused by the stress of his former police job that led to his mass weight gain, not his eating habits.

Vega's lawyer, Warren Roth, said it's clear that the job of a cop isn't conducive to healthy eating.
"It's easier to pull into McDonald's and wolf something down when you're busy,'' Roth said.

Ianal, but I'm pretty sure it's not ideal for the lawyer and his client to contradict each other.

Must be a hell of a cheat day.

Also I feed my bird nuts as a treat because they are high in fat. Google says 146 grams of peanuts has 72grams of fat, which is about 50% of the nut's weight.

This - I have a good friend who runs marathons regularly and quite a few miles daily.  The guy eats anything he wants at any time and stays rail thin because he burns an insane amount of energy.  Unfortunately for me, building a model train layout is not as energy-intensive an activity.

Stress can do some crazy things to you..no doubt being in the nypd is stressful.

That said, the heavier you are the more you have to eat just to maintain the weight. At his age, height, and weight he needs to eat around 3000 calories a day to maintain it. 2000 calories a day will have him dropping 2 pounds a week.
