Stop calling them journals. These are journals in the same way that photocopies of my butt are a journal. Scam 'journals' are just a targeted scam and are dangerous only in the sense that some rubes fall for them and pay for 'publication.'  By getting an article accepted in one, you are not clever, you have not proven a point about scientific standards, and you haven't exposed a big conspiracy; you've just hassled a telemarketer.

Yes, for the low access fee of $100 per page or affiliation with a subscribing institution. Recent issues include "Vol. 1:Hairy" and "Vol. 2:Pale."

This proves that peer reviewed science works!

most of the articles from non-peer reviewed journals is crap,  such as trying to show vaccines are poisonous, climate change is not real,  chem-trails exist,  evolution does not happen....

I got a laugh the other week when somebody defended flat Earth proponents by suggesting that they really do believe in a spherical Earth, but that they are a protest group regarding organized science much in the same way as the Church of Satan is regarding organized religion, and that the whole thing is one giant inside joke.

The one flat Earther I've met IRL must not have been on the joke.  He was a total conspiracy nut.  You couldn't talk to him about anything non-work related due the chance of him going off the rails.  He was a walking Truther encyclopedia.

Journals often accept humorous articles.  Story at 11.

\ once saw an article about a laparoscopic-assisted vaginal delivery.  Yes, it was a joke.

The situation for quality control within arXiv is more subtle. I've just come across this:

Richard Williamson submitted and had accepted a 2 page note  An elementary conjecture which implies the Goldbach conjecture https://arxiv.org/abs/1802.02428

However the moderators decided to reclassify the paper from Math.NT (number theory) to Math.GM (general mathematics) a classification some regard as holding crackpot math that is not obviously wrong.

The author is pissed.

I'm looking forward to my dad hearing about this through a Rush Limbaugh filter, where it will become "scientific peer review is nonsense and therefore climatologists can be ignored."

/not looking forward to that but sadly expecting it.
