TappingTheVein: They bothered with "suicide" ? what happened to the old secret execution, disposing the bodies in unmarked mass graves and forbidding the families of the prisoners to mourn in public ?

Yes, what sort of country disappears people, and then keeps them for years without trial in conditions so terrible that they self-harm by the hundred and attempt suicide by the score.

Need I remind you of the "Church's" stance on contraception of child abuse? Science will use a model until it is improved. Newton to Einstein for example. No apologetics no way

As far as I am aware, the Roman Catholic Church does not deny that contraception works. Which is which it's against it. The church is also quite happy with both evolution and the big bang.

Of course its response child abuse has, shamefully, been as bad as those of the scout movement, the social work profession, political parties and protestant churches, but one thing you cannot reasonably accuse it of is hostility to science.

I leave you the millions of dead in Africa where "Mother Theresa" travelled to condemn condoms as a sin and a cause on Aids. As to Islam and maths, before we had science we had religion. So farking what? Before we had electricity we had oil lamps. A billion galaxies, science. One sperm? Sacred. There's nothing, repeat nothing that religion has to offer anymore, or for 500 yrs TBH

While horrible, no doubt, I don't think it's comparable to what the Iranian authorities do to their own citizens.

Yes, Mother Teresa was a ghoulish sadist. The point about Islam and maths (and chemistry and astronomy and physics) is not that they happened at the same time, but that Islam actively promoted intellectual enquiry in these areas. You may not have a role for religion in your life. That's fine. Neither do I, but I recognise that huge numbers of people have found religious belief to be a profoundly important part of their lives and that religion has inspired and continues to inspire artistic and scientific endeavour, to the benefit of us all. That deserves a more appreciative response than a boorish "So farking what?"
