There are no health benefits to drinking hydrogen peroxide but properly diluted it probably won't hurt you either.

None of those scientific or medical works offer a cure for autism, or even a clear and unambiguous cause. Desperate parents will cling to a comforting (to them) lie over the mountains of uncomfortable truth.

It isn't just parents that do that of course, and that's a bigger problem for our species than autism will ever be.

Are these parents who are trying to kill their "defective" kid that they don't want to take care off and just going "UH ITS A CURE, SEE" when they get caught?

And even if the parents are only misguided idiots who shouldnt be trusted with children, what about the people peddling these witch doctor cures? Someone up this chain has to be intentionally giving this info out knowing that'll push idiots into poisoning/killing their children and that it has nothing to do with autism.

What the hell happened to harmless quack cures like sleeping with your feet in plastic bags of lemon oil or just drinking a shiat ton of orange juice? Who the hell sees the stuff they use to kill the green goo that would grow in their pool as good for ingestion?

And to clarify, my wife doesn't buy into any of that stuff, at all, thank God. She has a great education and grounding in science that frequently dealt with the problem of 'pseudoscience,' with its methods and appeals and dangers, so she spots the red flags of nonsense readily.

But yeah. We worked hard for our kids. An adoption and an IVF. So people like this, who seem to reproduce in such a carefree and prolific manner, only to abuse the kids in myriad ways, makes her furious nearly beyond words. And having one fervent anti-vaxxer in our lives, in a relationship that we can't simply discard, is soul-crushing to her to have to deal with.

I don't think you could vaccinate for it, but I honestly believe that early childhood and prenatal vaccines may actually decrease the complications and severity of autism.  Childhood disease is really hard on brain development, and we already know that schizophrenia has both a genetic and an environmental component, basically you have the gene that makes you vulnerable to schizophrenia, and then your mother has a sever fever during pregnancy which causes the brain to develop wrong.  You need both those things together, and I would not be surprised if autism works much the same way.

Behavioral Center Clinical Director Kelly Goudreau added that it's natural for parents to want to find a cure for their child's autism and it's common for them to look towards "home remedies." However, she adds that it's important to remember that there is no "cure" for autism, and that any treatment that is administered should be one that is backed by research and scientific evidence.

There's your problem.  Once we decided Jenny McCarthy was a reliable source for Autism and its causes, we threw research and scientific evidence out the window.

Oh, geez, colloidal silver.  I'm friends with this old hippie guy who makes a living as a massage therapist, and in addition to these copper plates he uses to "focus your body's subtle energies for a mind-body balance" and this fanny pack full of little vials of essential oils that he carries around to cure all ills, he also loves to make and hawk his own bottles of colloidal silver.  I once made the mistake of asking him why he makes the colloidal silver at home himself, and he talked my ear off for over an hour about how you can't trust what you can't read on the internet about the purity of things, while simultaneously directing me to online sources for where he gets his mystic knowledge.  He's a little wacky and probably misguided, but he's kind and gentle and genuinely cares about helping people, so I like the guy even if he seems a little nuts.

I've often used peppermint or ginger tea to soothe my tummy, but never just rubbing it on. She's....kind, but easily swayed to some views.  Also, she believes a special mix of these oils that she made herself (she's a dealer in said oils) cured her of Morgellon's Disease.

Essential oils have their uses. Not generally medicinal, though, I got swimmers itch on my arms from one of those crazy mud races once and tea tree oil stopped the itch immediately and helped it clear up faster (than the internet said it would.)

Oh lawd, I have a "more than an acquaintance/less than an everyday friend" that, while she's amiable enough, swears by those silly oils.  "Rub peppermint on your stomach for upset, lavender on your feet for leg cramps" etc.  They're harmless, but I don't buy any from her.

Essential oils have their uses. Not generally medicinal, though, I got swimmers itch on my arms from one of those crazy mud races once and tea tree oil stopped the itch immediately and helped it clear up faster (than the internet said it would.)

Oh I know, I guess I was more all inclusive than I should have been. Tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, camphor, all have verified external uses.  Just not the oils that the "healthy essential oils" people are shilling for everything.  Argan oil is a wonderful treatment if you've fried your hair in saltwater/pool/sun.

I've heard of using peppermint to soothe an upset stomach, but in the context of drinking a cup of peppermint tea. Do those people really think the skin is a good conduit for internal stuff?  If so, our veins and arteries would be clogged by cotton lint from our shirts and undergarments.

Essential oils pretty much need to be ingested or inhaled for benefits. Except things like antiseptic/analgesic or bug repellents, rubbing on the skin does nothing. Also, they should never be used full strength but must be mixed with an oil to avoid irritating or even burning the skin. Same thing with ingesting them. They should never be ingested at full strength which is why peppermint or ginger would be made into a tea to calm nausea.

Unfortunately I had the opposite reaction. Tea Tree oil (very diluted in sweet almond oil) burned my skin. I use almond oil in a lot of things so it definitely was the tea tree.

Peppermint oil is a great pain reliever for sore muscles and headaches (it works wonders for my mom's pain related to her Parkinson's). I also will put a drop or two on my tongue for nausea and upset stomach but that is about the extent of its medicinal properties.

I drink ginger ale to sooth tummy burbles.  As for rubbing stuff on the skin, isn't unbroken skin pretty much impervious to a lot of stuff?  As in, keep open wounds covered to reduce infection risk.  I thought rubbing Vick's vapor rub on your chest was more so the vapors would be near your mouth and nose to inhale, and not so much soaking into your lungs.  Maybe I'm too stupid to understand all this modern magic, I'll keep going to my local minute clinic and let the nurse tell me what to do.

Argan oil (a carrier oil, not an essential oil BTW) is also great on the face. I have been using it for years. One drop on the outer corner of the eyelid nightly. I am in my 60's and still have no crows' feet.

Yup.

Try ginger tea. You get much more of the ginger that way and it is really tasty.

I went to go find the study but apparently there is a new one that ... it seems like they don't totallydisprove the first, but say "not as likely as we thought."

The initial study made sense and the TL;DR version was "rise in anti-depressants correlates with rise in autism." No one had done any long term studies beforehand...

Also, how about -- instead of acting like nothing can be done about it -- we start actually prosecuting people for disseminating harmful shiat like this, both products and the marketing. Telling people to poison their kids to cure autism isn't a First Amendment issue. It's enabling child abuse. It should be pursued and prosecuted as a crime.

Some parents of kids with autism are desperate enough to try something like this because they're overwhelmed and undersupported.  Some of them just don't have the critical thinking skills to see through scams like Miracle Mineral Supplement.  Other things may be going on.  Raising some autistic children is an exhausting 24 hour a day job.  I'd be looking for a miracle, too, after missing sleep all week just trying to keep the kid safe.

But I would laugh and laugh if they come up with a vaccine for it.

Well, you could. And then you'd end up losing things like the theory of relativity, computers, or the theory of gravity, along with a good undiagnosed chunk of the arts and other fields. Autism benifits society, and our trend of punishing autistic people for being autistic is just barbaric.

"MMS is a solution of Sodium Chlorite, which is then "activated" with an acid such as citric acid to create Chlorine Dioxide.
Both of these chemicals are industrial strength bleaches and are commonly used in paper mills to bleach wood pulp.
i1.wp.comView Full Size
While it is a bleach and used for bleaching purposes, MMS advocates claim that it is misinformation and endangering lives to call it bleach.
Jim Humble himself, and other MMS advocates such as Kerri Rivera, suggest a range of ways to take MMS depending on the problem, often suggesting using multiple at the same time. These include simply swallowing with water or juice, breathing in the vapors, adding to a humidifier, applying it to the skin directly, adding to eyes, vaginal and anal douches, and IV (intravenously)."
