It's the first thing that comes to mind for "cowbell" here.

The SNL sketch is second, but if I never hear that song again it's all good - Blue Öyster Cult did many better songs IMO.

I can't think of ANY music that includes cowbell. So I guess I am required to listen.
Are there any classical examples? For example, is it scored in Aaron Copeland's Rodeo Hoe Down?
If it belongs anywhere, it seems it would belong there.

Yeah, I have to believe it was the starting point ("WTF can we do with a cowbell?") and they just went with it.

Back then I spent part of my summers on my uncle's farm in SoDak, and the tempo reminds me of the "trot" the cows would use when we let them into the barn at milking time.

This show is about 99% rock, pop, novelty & comedy.  Any classical music I play will have some other motive, be it something played on the Fourth of July (1812 Overture), something used as a theme (William Tell Overture) or a tie in with a comedian (Boston Pops and Allan Sherman)
