Republican shiatbirds taking away my ability to participate in democracy would make me want to snort bath salts too.

2018-02-13 06:12:50 AM
Federal District Court Judge Mark Walker ruled Feb. 1 that 1.5 million Floridians' right to vote has been affected by a "scheme" to bend the people's collective will to political whim.

Feature not a bug, from the Republicans' standpoint. That was the entire goal of the War on Drugs, from Nixon's perspective. They knew it was a bullshiat-but-effective means to silence and disenfranchise the most vocal liberals.

So you're saying that something Rick Scott is involved in is somehow shady and dubious? As someone that lived in Florida for years let me say "No wai!"

How exactly does a fight at a house party lead to burglary charges?

The only thing I can imagine is some bullshiat interpretation of s committing a crime in another's dwelling statute.

You're at the party, you steal something, you get caught, you proceed to get your ass kicked, someone calls the police.  The police respond to a fight, get an explanation for the cause of the fight, charge you with burglary.

Maybe we were a little premature in saying that the Voting Rights Act was no longer necessary?

The judge found that the vote restoration process in Florida - executed by a Republican-led clemency board headed by Gov. Rick Scott - used arbitrary means to decide who is worthy.

FTA: "But passing the amendment may be an uphill battle in the Sunshine State, where law and order command a heavy respect. "

Hahahhahaha, no, it doesn't. I live here, I would venture a good 80% of the state, myself included, doesn't give a flying fark about the B.S. laws the Florida good 'ol boys club writes.  From their stupid blue laws about nudity and alcohol, banishing anything adult oriented to the industrial zoned areas; to their moronic application of medical cannabis, treating it like just one marijuana will kill the whole state; and of course their idiotic voter laws.

The only 'caring' about Law and Order in the state government is how to avoid both. It helps that A.G. Barbie doesn't dare prosecute any of her sugar daddies in Tallahassee.

<Lights bong>

When the legislature doesn't follow the very laws it creates, the people don't give a damn about the supposed law and order the legislature hands down.

Commit a felony, lose your right to vote. I learned that when I was a kid. You shouldn't be able to get it back. There are a lot of crimes that shouldn't be felonies, but that is a separate issue.

The various disenfranchisement schemes they tried in the South, after the Voting Rights Act made it illegal to just flat out forbid blacks to vote, are bullshiat.
But it looks like the courts are going to make them fix it - so all's well that ends well, I guess.

I learned a lot of things when I was a kid. Not all of them turned out to be true.
And a lot of them just turned out to be somebody's arbitrary opinion.

Ex-Cons, people who likely owe significant amounts of money to others, want to live in Florida, a state where it's damn near impossible to garnish wages or seize a home (under 1/2 an acre) even with a judgment docketed in the same county?  You don't say.

2018-02-13 09:52:40 AM
The fact that this piece of human garbage ever got elected in the first place tells you just how farked up we are in Florida. I blame the geriatric republicans. Please just die already.

2018-02-13 10:00:49 AM
More than a third of all US ex-cons who can't vote live in Florida. Why?

Because Florida has demonstrated, time and time again, that it is The Honey Badger State. It's gun friendly, full of drugs, warm, and trashy. If I was a con, I'd rather blend in in Florida than be "that guy" on the block in Illinois.

"I may have served some time for breaking & entering, but that guy just robbed a convenience store with a 3-foot alligator as a weapon."

You must have grown up in one of the shiathole states that took the 14th admindments clause to revoke the rights to vote away from the leaders of the Confederate States as a free licance to supress minority voters. When it was written it only applied to treason and rebellion, now if you live in a red state it includes driving while black (assuming the cop does not just shoot you)

Not sure I understand the point of submitter's headline, but the result of Florida's election law is, of course, deliberately racist. It's the whole point of laws like that. To make black people a permanent underclass.
