Simple.  No phone, no vote.

Ambivalence: Or better yet, why don't we all get chipped like dogs and cats so when we get lost someone will take us back home.

hmmmm..........sounds familiar

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Revelation 13:16-17 King James Version (KJV)

That's some Nostradamus sh*t right there.

Godscrack: dv-ous: Godscrack: I keep telling people, smart/iPhones aren't just for YOUR convenience. They are electronic leashes. People are hooked on them now. You sell your soul with every upgrade and new app you install.

I was stopped last week by a cop thinking I was texting and driving. I told/showed him my 'loser/criminals/poor people' flip phone. He said 'You wont be able to use those phones anymore' and walked away in a huff. (?)
I'm not saying they can't locate you by flip phones. A few years ago I reported someone had dropped several sheets of glass on the interstate. They already knew my location.

All I need is a cell phone when I am away from home. That's it.
/cool story

it helps if you know where you're going.

Know where you're going before you leave..?

Even better plan!

I don't have one, and won't have one.

Patriotic Citizens will be compelled to carry their smart phone tracking devices with them at all times.

/which will be enough for me to dump mine

And don't forget to turn on the GPS tracking in your electric car, so Uncle knows how far you are driving for the road tax.

As long as there are flip phones, I won't have a smart phone. My Pantech only needs to be charged once a week, my wife's Galaxy can barely make it through a day on one charge.

DontMakeMeComeBackThere: Existing is not the problem...replacing is.  I'm sure the person who wrote the report was just overreacting with the whole "it will replace cards!!" crap, but the implications of replacing physical cards are just stupid:

To drive a car you MUST legally own a smartphone.
You smartphone MUST legally be charged at all times.
If you get an an accident, better hope your phone isn't damaged

...it goes on.  Add it as an option? Sure Replace?  Get real.

Don't forget voter ID laws. No smartphone, no vote. That's one way to further disenfranchise poor people.

If I was looking to track people who were specifically searching for bad stuff on the internet, I might ask myself how I could convince them to use my search engine instead of Google.

They'd be outed in court records. Sure they'd bury a few, but it wouldn't be worth it to operate just to get a few.  Like VPNs for stealing music files, if users started to get convicted the word would get out pretty quick

FWIW, I think DDG is owned by a Russian company.

Considering the track record with other Russian software(see Kaspersky), the "we don't track your searches" claim should be taken with a pile of salt.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.

I May Be Crazy But...: idrow: I have no idea how they expect to enforce this.  Are they going to make it a law that you have to purchase a smart phone and keep it on you at all times?  We already do that with a license, they're just complicating things for profit at this point.

Do we? I was under the impression that you only needed it if you were driving or if you're brown in Arizona. (Or buying smokes or beer, I guess.)

If a cop ever asks for your license when you get pulled over and you don't have it, then you're screwed.  If you're a passenger and you don't have it or a valid govt ID when asked for it, you're screwed, too.  You should always have one or the other on you at all times to avoid further aggravation.

Hey - so long as the thing can be accessed like my iphone camera, without unlocking it. Fine.
Otherwise - I guess I will have to drive without a license.

If you're a passenger, you are not in any way required to carry any form of identification at all.

I actually make a point of taking my license out of my wallet if I'm going for a walk.  I recommend everyone do the same.

Luckily I live in the UK where we don't have to carry anything when driving. No licence, no insurance, no registration, nothing. They can tell from their computer if it's taxed and inspected.
My licence lives in my safe at home and hasn't got my photo on it anyway.

If you think the cops can't fark with you just because you're technically in the right not to carry it, you haven't been paying attention.

Has the same tatty unreadable piece of paper been in your wallet since 1997, do you keep it in a safe, or are you bullshiatting?

The day the government wants to put some form of ID on my phone is the day I get rid of my phone and get a burner.

There is no way I am carrying a government issued ID device that tracks my location.

Got a citation couple months ago. Told the cop my papers were in the back. Opened the trunk, cop saw all the mess and just asked if the car was mine. Went back to his car, ran the plate for license, insurance and registration. Came back with a ticket properly filled out with all my information on it.

Can't do that, because it's a right.

Of course, now that we have Supreme Court precedent that says the government can require you to purchase a third party product just because you're alive, I may be wrong.

Computers have difficulty with hand-keyed Morse.  My fist is pretty damned good, but I can change it so that a computer can't copy it but a human can.
