"Contrary to the claim that conservatives are sharing the most fake news, the study proves nothing other than finding conservatives tend to share conservative media online. "

The point flew right by them, unsurprisingly.

LOL. And I love how the article "disproves" the study by claiming that since they're high traffic websites, they can't be fake news.

Working over 18 months, researchers working on the Computational Propaganda Project identified 91 sources of propaganda operating across the political spectrum. They used this information to compile a dataset of 13,477 Twitter users and 47,719 public Facebook pages consuming or sharing junk content in the three months leading up to the State of the Union Address. These audiences were then categorised by their political interests, using a supervised machine learning algorithm, to identify groups such as Trump supporters, conservative media fans, the progressive movement, libertarians, and members of the two main US political parties.

"We demonstrate that (1) on Twitter, a network of Trump supporters shares the widest range of known junk news sources and circulates more junk news than all the other groups put together; (2) on Facebook, extreme hard right pages-distinct from Republican pages-share the widest range of known junk news sources and circulate more junk news than all the other audiences put together; "

To be fair, that is human nature.  We are not rational creatures.  The best we can do is acknowledge and understand that.

Also to be fair, republican policies and ideas and generally do bad that you have to lie to support them.

If a website has high traffic, then the things on that website must therefore be true.

This can be proven by two facts:
1. shiat-tons of people visit pornhub every day.
2. The heating and air guy has been out to my house three times and he still hasn't fixed the problem with my furnace.

I used to be able to have rational conversations with conservatives, because regardless of our differences of opinion, we could at least agree on what 'reality' actually was. We may have disagreed on what to do about that reality, but we were starting from the same place.

Now they are actively denying what 'real' means, considering opinions to be evidence more important than facts, and will double down in the face of any contrary proof.

I have always been a political pragmatist, believing that results are more important than ideology, but these days I just have no faith that the system can ever be fixed.

I have absolute faith that the system can be fixed.   We have to want it,  work towards it,  and stand up for it.

You are so right about the different realities.  I just keep offering proof.
