Lackofname: Goddammitsomuch.

Resistance is futile.

But the good news, if you want to call it that, is that it's really more of a merger than acquisition. Which is nice... at least in that one way.

I expect to see a lot of stories of this type now that the botfarms are getting up to speed for 2018.

Just because "a lot of people are saying it" doesn't mean it's true.

I'm really starting to hate this publication. Hate.

So everyone remember that one generic ballot poll everyone freaked out about and said the dems were done and everyone wrote an article about? Well this week they are back to between +6 and +11. This is just going to be more of we have to look impartial bullshiat. Just like reporting on the Clinton scandal.

Shiat's gotta get done.  It hurts, but it's necessary.

But yeah, like MrBallou says, this strikes me as an early salvo of concern trolling.

If, as a liberal, you need to be "inspired" to vote against Republicans, you're privileged enough so that their policies don't effect you. That is the problem with the hardline progressive left. It isn't populated by people who are actually hurt by Trump's/the GOP's policies. It's populated mainly by upper-middle-class white people who can afford to impose purity tests on the candidates because their livelihoods aren't threatened either way. It's privileged disinterest masquerading as political engagement.

Expect a lot more of these kinds of articles in the run up to November. They're like get out of jail free cards for the radically lazy left.

Their country definitely suffers, though, and they wonder why shiat sucks worse. See 2000, 2016...

I'm not sure they wonder about it. I'm not sure they actually much care, to be honest.

For the last 25 years, I've lived in two of the most liberal, most wealthy college towns in America. My experience is that much of the hardline left in both of these communities are really just looking for a place to put their anger over things unrelated to politics and for something to do when they're not doing the kind of things the leisure class does. Politics is an amorphous, emotional butterfly net for them. It's theory over practice. It's a country club without the golf and tennis, and for as much hue and cry as they engage in, when the chips are down, that's about how seriously they take it.

Whatever. Either liberals take the GOP threat seriously or they don't at this point. There is no time to or purpose in trying to talk sense into them. The Democrats should be focused exclusively on GOTV efforts among the lower class and minorities and forget about placating non-serious pundits and talkers who never set foot outside of their safe enclaves.

Absolutely. It's not about ideas, it's about getting people to exercise their damn voting rights.

No they aren't. Playing along with the majority party and work it out legislature that not only gets most of what you want, but also doesn't give Trump what he wants... that looks pretty good to me.

The fact that Democrats in congress can do this much without a majority and without causing major collateral damage with a long term shutdown... well that just means they're better at politics and much smarter about the long game than, well... most people posting here.

Of course. And notice the push to paint this simple concept as "selling out" among the leisure class liberal pundits, hence this idiotic concept of "swinging" voters, as if it's more important and more effective to "win" people than to engage someone who's never participated in the Democratic process. That speaks to how much this is essentially a game for them, one they manage from the sidelines rather than play.

TOP Democrats in the HIGHEST circles have assured the author that Democratic enthusiasm is waning, despite the electoral victories in VA/NJ and countless other special elections (most recently flipping a district was +28 R in 2016).

Sure.

I would bet real money that if you asked them, a statistically significant portion of them honestly believe that the Democrats control Congress.  These are people who think that Trump isn't a Republican and smugly condescend when you say he is.  They are very damaged people.

Huh.  I guess Trump isn't such an unmitigated disaster of historic proportions after all.  Thanks, Atlantic!

The Republicans stood shoulder to shoulder against Obama on everything he tried to accomplish - even if they agreed with him. You've almost got to admire that kind of obstruction.

2018-02-09 12:41:18 PM
Oh, bullshiat. The entire "evidence" for this "Democrats are rolling over" theory that this kook is pushing is that they don't reflexively say no to ideas over an infrastructure bill. Because Democrats have long been interested in fixing the nation's infrastructure.

Okay. So?

Wake me up when coming out against your own ideas is now a bad thing because the opponents are at least talking about it.

Meanwhile, I'll go back to watching Nanci Pelosi pulling one of the longest speeches in House history, while the GOP continues to rape the nation.

Dems don't need to concern themselves with "picking up" or losing any existing voters. They need to get non-voters to vote. It's that simple. Too simple for people whose livelihood depends on making it more complicated than it needs to be.

I have very little faith in our political institutions. I firmly believe that there are going to be several prominent Democrats who will say "yes, we know that Trump and his coconspirators were guilty of colluding with a hostile foreign power to undermine our democracy but we need to move on lest we alienate the voters that support him". Those people will need to be ejected from the party, preferably by trebuchet.

I fully expect that Mueller will get evidence that a few Democrats are knowingly receiving Russian money as well.
