I think the shocking part is the 28 year age difference. Old John is kind of a pedo, relatively speaking.

Half his age plus 7 is his limit. He's 100 so 100 / 50 + 7 = 57. His partner is 72. He's fine.

Well that is a sweet story.  I have actually met morons who say there have only been gay people since the 60's sexual revolution...like I said morons.

2018-02-09 08:55:53 AM
I heard this story on my way into work this morning. Pretty much one of those "made my day" kind of stories. I know this 46 year old, straight, white dude had tears rolling down his cheek.

Nice story. Our neighbors in bay area had been together 55+ years, as Bob said, they were the only to gays in Montana so they were destined to meet in the navy 1941.
CSB:
MIL is/was  a religious bigot, during her visit to see us she did not want to go to the city. "'cause you know gays spit in your food to give you aids" Well she started taking through the fence. In she comes, "you have the nicest neighbor, I wish I had a nice neighbor like him, you are so lucky to have a nice man living next door" and my wife dug her nails into my hand with a whisper of "don't say a word".
In 2015 we visited her in the home, when my wife was out of the room, I asked her if she remembered Bob and Frank, she said "Yes" - well mom they were gay. She died later that afternoon....

"You know, Jerry, I'm old enough to be your dad!"

"I know, John.  I know.... I just hope your kids come to accept me, if not like a parent, then hopefully like that cool roomate, or cousin, they never knew they had..."

2018-02-09 09:23:37 AM
"Yes, of course," John says. The two indulge in the memory of a casual wedding - a frank display, if you will, of their unabashed love - featuring hot dogs as a main course, which, John says, "is hardly wedding food."

Heh. I'd just like to point out that they didn't need to spend 25k on a wedding. The only things missing are the beer and music. Congratulations to the couple.

Do people just show up at random weddings to get a look at the bride? It should say "If you came to see the bride, you're at the wrong venue, and/or have the wrong date"

Meh.  Veterans and gay people get married every day.

The best man at my wedding's father is gay.  He was a Captain US Army, 2 tours in Vietnam 1St. Air Cav.  Says he was always faithful to my friend's mom (I believe him) until she died.  He decided to come out of the closet Christmas eve about 10 years ago.  Came down the steps with a packed bag saying " I can't live a lie anymore, I got a hotel room".  We proceed to tell him we ALL knew for about 5 years, drop his shiat, and come have a drink.

We all laughed about it.  He thought we were going to think less of him.  This guy saw unspeakable horrors and faced dangers I would run from, and I'm supposed to think less of him because of that?  Rubbish.

Sad that society makes him think that way.

Same here, and I think it's because they are from a generation where they felt the most pressure to stay closeted, as they'd face merciless and nearly universal persecution for their "lifestyle" if they ever dared come out.  Finding themselves now in a climate where they are not only orders of magnitude more accepted, but they can actually get legally married, must have felt like a dream come true that they never thought would.

The 72 year old served in Vietnam.  His husband is the WW2 get and he's 100.

Hell, I'm just impressed that a 75 year old found love so late in life and has been fortunate enough to have at least another 25 years to enjoy it.

Good for them both.  Sweet story. :)

I am quoting this because literally every word in it applies to me (age included).

I usually turn off StoryCorps IMMEDIATELY as soon a I hear the theme so I don't, in the words of Stephen Colbert "sob like a little child while driving to work in the morning" (or something along those lines).  Today they gave a warning that it was actually going to be sweet.

I imagine that's the only reason D2S wanders through at Mar a Lago, to get a look at the goods to see if he wants to invoke prima nochte.
