102. Speed Skating - Men's Team Pursuit is fun to watch.  And it's the least interesting?  It is going to be a great Olympics.

I like cross-country skiing for the final 15 minutes.  It's great watching the athletes put it all out there and collapsing across the line in a heap.

Most Olympic sports are great in the way that NBA December basketball is not great:  effort.  You've got a bunch of nobodies with one chance to compete on the biggest stage they'll ever be on.

This is a big factor in why March Madness is so much fun to watch.  95% of the seniors in the NCAA Tournament are fully aware that they're going to be working a desk job in three months.  That's why they play so hard.

Years back in Calgary I got to try luge on the track there- they let you go down from the halfway point

At the risk of insulting the wife, it's the most fun I've ever had on my back.

Gary Bettman deciding that nobody wanted to see the greatest collection of young talent in NHL history play for their national teams in the Olympics, all while making sure all that great young talent never got showcased on nationally-televised NHL games, is Yet Another Reason Why Gary Bettman Needs To DIAF.

Curling outranking anything tells me this list is farked.  That 'sport' is beyond boring.  I used to work at Lloyd Center in Portland Or.  The eating area looks down on an ice rink.  One day I was eating lunch and there was curling going on.  Four groups of people curling at once couldn't make this entertaining and it was the longest break in recorded history.

Agreed. Curling needs to swap places with the skiing events on this list, as far as I am concerned.

the most relevant hockey moment this decade was the Zach Parise/Sidney Crosby gold medal game

What an odd way to describe that game.

To be fair, I can see why the NHL didn't want to shut down for 2 weeks right as the playoff hunt is heating up and the trade deadline is approaching. Also, maybe I'm a naive purist, but I don't mind that it's back to being "amateurs" playing for their countries, even if only for this one Olympics. It makes it more interesting than simply being able to predict that Canada and the USA are the favorites.

FTFA:

"Adam Edelman of Israel is set to become the first Orthodox Jew to compete at the Winter Olympics. It's a good thing the skeleton competition is on Thursday and Friday mornings, because Edelman doesn't roll (down the hill) on Shabbos."

Dead for Tax Reasons: how is women's curling ranked that much farther down than men's?

They're trying to hype up Team USA, as evidenced by this quote:

But John Shuster's American side has legitimate medal hopes

To anyone who even passively follows curling, this is a ludicrous statement. They don't call choking in the Olympics "Shustering" for nothing.

The Canadian women are going to completely steamroll the field, and the American team isn't even on the podium radar this year, which appears to be the rationale for the ranking system here.

/yes I curl
//been loving mixed doubles this year, it's a lot faster paced which is a much better intro to the sport.
///plus Kaitlyn Lawes is getting a ton of screen time.

Also shocked to see Snowboard Cross all the way down at 18th on this list. Those races are like the opening to a Bond movie -- tons of jumps and obstacles, as well as crashes. Hella fun to watch.

Parise with the late game tying goal, Crosby with the OT winner

I get where you're coming from...but it that was in any way true, the entire farking Russian (excuse me, Team of Athletes Who Do Not Officially Represent Russia) team would be DQ'd.  The same way things happened for 40 years up to the 1988 Games.

The Russians, and to a lesser extent, the Chinese, have NEVER given a single fark about amateur status, and will never do so.  Their amateurs are professionals in every way but the spelling of the word describing them.

/"Amateur" is spelled A-M-A-T-E-U-R.
//Russian athletes spell it C-H-E-A-T-E-R

The format has taken some getting used to, but it has been a lot of fun to watch.  There have been some great matches, China/South Korea was crazy.
