It was totally not his fault.  He ran out of gas.  He had a flat tire.  He had no money for cab fair.  His tux did not come back from the cleaners.  An old friend came in from out of town.  Someone stole his car.  There was an earthquake.  A terrible flood! Locusts!  IT WASN'T HIS FAULT!

Now where's all the pissant talk from Republicans about not paying the military?

Guys. Hate to break it to you, the government is not shut down.

170ish Republicans were joined by 70ish Democrats in the House and the senate passed it with a Veto proof 71 vote supermajority.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/08/congress-massive-budget-deal-2018-398189

Bonus: Rand Paul actually technically did shut down the government at 12:01am EST until 5am-ish because of his shenanigans

Now this could just be me, but... anyone notice how "absent" this shutdown is in the media compared to the previous one?

With the previous shutdown, there was a string of a few days where worst-case scenarios were spelled out in graphic detail, with scenes of people literally dying in the streets.  And when the shutdown did come, it was the ONLY thing that was talked about.

Facebook, Twitter, in newsfeeds, and even here on Fark, couldn't get enough.  It was fascinating.

Now, this time around?  Relative silence.  I'm not seeing half the reporting I did last time.  A lot of my friends aren't even aware the government is, technically, shut down right now.  Yes, the news IS out there, people are covering the story, but it's evenly matched by the Dow's drop, another Trump dismissal, and the Winter Olympics.  What's different this time?

I don't believe this, Trump must sleep like hell at night. No, not because he has a conscience, goodness no. It's because he usually has an ass full of bigmacs that leak out at all hours of the night.

I genuinely believe Trumps eating habits are how he deals with his internal stress of Mueller putting an end to his treasonous nonsense.

First you need to take charge of something- be it a business, a women, maybe a country, it all works the same- but you have to undermine it first so you don't pay the real value of it. This requires a good amount of 'negging', so the selling party feels like they're getting a deal going with your pathetic offer.

Next, you gotta make it look like you're there for the long haul. Make some 'hard' choices and pass some 'tough' bills, shake up those in charge, in fact, fire them all! If it's a female- put a ring on it to show you're serious.

When you seem to have total control- strip down the assets for easier sale. Maybe all those pesky 'natural preserves' have some oil underneath, sell off the rights. Pay off the good buddies who got you in with tariffs on what used to be communal norms. Find even more money in a budget by cutting services to poor people- they don't pay their bills, they certainly don't pay your bills, lol. Your wife probably found out about the hookers by now, but she'll behave with a new purse, or Porsche, whatever it takes to keep appearances.

Finally- bankruptcy. The company is in tatters, but claim whatever and get the difference based on last year's performance; the economy probably took a dive because of non-white people. Divorce that hag, a new model is out anyway; the prenup stated she only got what the company made, so lol on her, she gets nothing! Willy Wonka'd her didn't we? She never stopped to question the other ex-wives? Double lol!

And if it's the country, well, I guess bankrupting an entire country of financial, ethical, and spiritual health is a great task to undertake. Just make sure they throw you a military parade before you go. What an experiment this will be!

That and I'm not sure how many people predicted RAND PAULS stupid stunt precisely because it is stupid and just delayed the passage of the bill for a few hours. Why the press didn't cover the shaky support from Dems in the House more, I do not know.
