Still wrong.

2018-02-08 11:47:19 PM
A Veterans Day or Memorial Day march of servicemen minus the armor and explosives for the public to say thanks would be enjoyable. Would Trump agree to that or does he want the full Independence Day nukes-on-parade saber-rattle? A military parade and a Trump parade featuring the military are different things.

Yes they are.

2018-02-08 11:48:34 PM
We as a nation should only permit military parades for the future President Oprah.

2018-02-09 12:14:02 AM
I have changed my mind, we need this parade, and it needs to be as long and as tedious as the St. Patrick's day Parade in NY. Make Trump stand for 8 hours, at the end everyone will see that Trump can't be bothered.

2018-02-09 02:19:19 AM
If it was a parade welcoming home troops after victory, thats one thing. WWII was especially keen on celebrating the greatest generation. A military parade for the sake of waving your dick is something completely different.

2018-02-09 02:49:06 AM
Can't we just get Trump another playdate with some firefighters instead of a parade? Maybe even let him turn on the fire engine sirens and lights this time.

2018-02-09 02:53:38 AM
Hey wanted a parade of troops not military might for those who fought in Afghanistan.  Like the other hundred of parades we've had.

It's funny how this article admits it's 100% siffeent then goes "but it counts too!!"

2018-02-09 02:55:06 AM
FTA: Worth noting, though: The parade Schumer wanted in 2014 was a ticker-tape procession up Broadway in NYC, not a presidential review of armored troops in D.C., and he wanted it to mark a specific occasion rather than as a show of "strength." Schumer's parade wouldn't have involved jets or tanks, I don't think; it would have been a march by veterans of the war on terror, to thank them for their service. The clip says, quaintly, that the parade would have been timed to coincide with the end of combat operations in Afghanistan.

See, now, HotAir, this sort of mealy-mouthed, libtard-appeasing, "to be sure" paragraph buried halfway through your spittle-flecked rant? This is the sort of unwelcome, Fake News remnants of journalistic integrity that are turning off the Trump-voting base. Why do you think Real Americans are abandoning your site and turning to trusted Twitter bots and Facebook groups? Because you insist on inserting cold, wet, ugly Fake News references to reality in the middle of your warm blanket of reassuring lies.

Shape up, HotAir, or you're going to be left in the dustbin alongside all the other so-called "journalists" who insist on polluting their narratives with occasional facts. I expect to see this paragraph removed by the time my nana wakes up, or your site is dead to her.

Lying hot-air sacks of shiat. I don't think a single sentence of that mess was true.

Some of it was true. They're not supposed to do that!

Let me just say that 99% of the military would happily never be involved in a parade. Well, maybe less than that. But it's silly regardless.

I may be wrong, but weren't we ending war efforts in Afghanistan in 2014?

There are 13,329 members of the U.S. military still there. Not much of an "end."

Is the Federal Government shut down? Because, if it is, we've got bigger fish to fry. Try not to be distracted by the man-baby with the tiny hands.

And have them play the national anthem every time a new group or "thing" travels past so he has to keep getting up.

Chuck Schumer once admitted that the military exists! Therefore he is the tinpot dictator, no collusion, no collusion, you're the collusion.

What do they throw at a ticker-tape parade these days anyways? Do they print up a bunch of ticker tape special for the occasion? Or is Trumpy bringing back the ticker tape industry, just like he's doing with coal?

But he believes that getting all dressed up and marching past him would be an honor for them.

So the article admits that it's different than when a sitting president calls for it. Also, why is it newsworthy when a democrat has a tweet that (possibly) makes them hypocritical, and it's nothing when trump literally wrote a novel of tweets criticizing Obama for stuff he does now?

Oh that's right, it's only okay when your guy does it. So long as liberals are getting upset, no bar is too low.

It's still stupid.  Military parades are stupid.  We idolize the military too much in this country.  And the stuff we should be doing, healthcare, mental health access, we are actually not doing well enough.

I think the whole "thank you for your service" platitude is cheesy as hell and I never say it.  And conservatives that use the troops and vets as a cudgel to shut down any debate or to score political points piss me off.

I guess I'm opposed to lip service, I would prefer more action.  Stop it with the bullshiat yellow ribbons and streamline the process for getting into the VA system.  Increase funding to the VA in line with the influx of GWOT vets.  Increase wages for docs and nurses and recruit the best to work at VA hospitals around the country, and make it easier to get rid of shiatty ones while you're at it.  Increase funding for job training, job placement for returning vets.  Increase funding for childcare and education for current troops.  Increase troop pay.

Stop spending money on toys that just get stored in the desert or airplanes that are manufactured in twenty five different states and spend it on people who served and are serving.  And for God's sake shut up about the troops and the vets.  They deserve our respect and our care, not our our idolatry.

I no longer work at a place that sends me to the Pentagon from time to time, but I still have colleagues there. I asked what the atmosphere in the Pentagon was.

"I only heard the word "parade" a couple of times and both times is was with disdain."

Although honoring America's servicemen with a parade kinda seems like honoring a retiring McDonald's worker by putting them in a cookoff.

I'm a vet.  I hate that phrase.

Oh, I like the sentiment if it was delivered sincerely. . .but it's very rarely delivered sincerely.  Most of the time it's about as sincere as "have a nice day".

. . .and I loathe people assuming all vets, or all military, are Republicans.  A lot are, probably a majority, but far, FAR from all of them.  I've known a LOT of people in the military, and a LOT of vets, who are Democratic or otherwise left-of-center.

I bet he also wants to wear some sort of uniform. And not just the ball cap with the scrambled eggs and a bomber jacket, but an actual uniform. Like a cross between something that his buddy Sheriff Clark would wear and Prince Philip. With a sword. Has to have a sword.

Here's the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats hear a Republican say "We should have a parade!" and respond, "That's a dumb idea".  Democrats hear a Democrat say "We should have a parade" and respond, "That's still a dumb idea". No "walking back" or justification, or inconsistent "b..b...buts".  There are exceptions, but generally, a dumb idea is a dumb idea to a Democrat. To a Republican, it's a Talking Point.

2018-02-09 07:47:37 AM
A welcome home parade for veterans is the "gotcha" moment.

THAT'S WHAT REPUBLICANS ARE STOOPING TO.

How much would a parade of veteran soldiers on foot cost?  How long would it take to repave all the roads they destroyed as they walked across them?  How many people would have to fly across the country to make that happen?

Now, same questions, this time about Donnie's tank parade.
