apparently it's a closed government lol

Wouldn't that be twice this year? Trump's the best at setting records!

2018-02-08 11:23:22 PM
President Trump is too lazy and stupid to keep the government open.

The world is laughing at him.

And here I am with my satellite dish mostly out of commission... I need to get it aimed for the news feeds so I can watch the train wreck in real time.

Pelosi and Paul, humping us all.

2018-02-08 11:23:40 PM
Yes, it will shut down.  Again.  While under Republican control.  Because at least one Republican is throwing a tantrum about debts and deficits being too big.  Because they gave the rich and corporate America tax cuts.

You forgot a "regular" in your headline, subby. It should be "It's your regular 'Will The Government Shutdown' thread".

Rand Paul is just showboating. He'll vote for this budget deal. He's just placating his idiot Libertarian brethren. Once his ego is satisfied, he'll vote for this budget-busting bill. He clearly doesn't care about pinching pennies since voting for that tax cut.

2018-02-08 11:26:18 PM
Is it true Sen. Rand Paul actually berated fellow Republicans for intellectual dishonesty when -- after earlier opposing Good President Obama's deficits --- they didn't fight back against Bad President Trump's deficits?

2018-02-08 11:26:38 PM
But the House and Senate vote on it before we wake up tomorrow. It'll be the shutdown that was but wasn't.

I'll take the outside odds. Rand Paul sees the error of his ways and decides good governance is more important than political grandstanding.

If it hits, I'll own this whole website.

Man, it feels like just three weeks ago we were having this same exact thread.

Oh, we were?

The Department of Inadvisably Applied Magic: Christ, I can't believe this is happening. Again.

Really? I can, I've been expecting it.  I'd be more surprised if we had an actual congess with our Congress, and had a discussion that resulted in a policy, like governments are supposed to.

But that's not what we have, so no reason to expect it.

This is what happens when one side keeps electing vocally un-American idiots into office.

I mean I can't count number of republican friends and family who believe the 'whole system is broken, need to tear it down'.

Yeah... because you keep voting for people who tell you that. And then they go into government and rot it from the inside out. It's a farking self-fulfilling prophecy.

They also think our politicians are bought and paid for... so their solution? Vote for the party that actively supports the influx of corporate and dark money into politician pockets. Democrats aren't innocent here, sure, but there was at least discussion about it on demo side, and I believe was one of the campaign pledges from Clinton and Sanders both to do something with re: to citizen's United.

These people see the problems, but are too stupid to see the correct solution and just keep reinforcing the problem year after year.

Newsflash - if you think all of our institutions and politicians should be demolished, then you're a farking lunatic traitor doing more to harm our US society than any 3rd party country in history.

/it's because democrats want to give black people free money

Midnight is an arbitrary deadline iirc. If they get something done in the wee morning hours- no one notices. If they don't - gov workers are furloughed, stocks tank tomorrow and moodys reconsiders our worth.

PredictIt market is basically 50/50 over whether or not there'll be a shutdown tomorrow.

Congressmen are expected to vote from 3am to 6am.

I want to put money on one or the other, but there's no way I'm staying awake that long.

Right, and to be fair, they also don't want 'lazy drugged out' white people getting free money either.

The plan to deal with poor people? Make life so miserable that they're inspired to get a job. Really. And if they don't want a job, then wait until they commit a crime to earn money, then throw them in jail. Only then are we ok with paying for people, once they've done something bad enough to warrant it. It's twisted.

One friend pulled out an anecdote 'well my mom met this black lady who had 8 kids to get more checks, it was disgusting and you want to give that person more money?'

My retort: 'gee, yeah that does sound bad. Hey, maybe we shouldn't ONLY give her money for having kids? Maybe we've made it so hard to legitimately get help that desperate people will exploit loopholes like this. Maybe that's the problem. The solution isn't give her less money bro.'

Can we start a go fund me to pay people the $7.50 they would lose by taking an hour off to vote in November?

And can you legally refuse to drive a Republican voter to the poll?

2018-02-08 11:44:38 PM
McConnell left hours ago and plans to be back at 1:00 AM to call a vote and it will pass the Senate.

I have no idea how soon it will move to the House to vote on or what will happen.  Some Dems are saying to vote for what's in the bill and not reject it for what isn't.

I do think it's an interesting failure that the coverage has been and continues to be on what will the House Dems do and not on the HFC who would give Ryan the votes he needs.   It's like they get to be unaccountable because of their ludicrous demands.
