Good.

Lots  of evidence supporting this  idea.  I'm ok with this.

Yeah. We knew this.

Took them long enough. San Francisco is already working on this and their recreational law only just took effect this year.

Well, the War On Drugs is a failure and is intentionally and systemically racist. So this is all obvious and necessary. Any location that is legalizing recreational marijuana and not doing this, and there are several, are doing a half ass job of it and are failing.

Cool tag suspiciously missing.
Also, when I move my hands like this all the vowels on my keyboard melt.

The Keebler Elf in charge has a stiffy that pot is the gateway to all the heroin and opioids. Weed is the way off opioids, but Jeffy knows best... and is clearly well financed from big pharma.

I used to work for a company that did pre-employment screenings for mostly large companies. Big ones you've heard of. It was a miserable, soulless job because of how much we aided and abetted the practice of f*cking people over for life for relatively minor infractions. I never cashed my severance check that included my accumulated leave for over a grand because I didn't need it, and considered it blood money.

But I distinctly remember that we were not allowed to report to the clients marijuana-related convictions in the state of California.

/I still hate that I worked there

FOREVER!

Seriously though, with so many politicians claiming to be Christian, there is a severe lack of forgiveness of past transgressions in sentencing laws.

jebus bless murica.
can we please get over the "war on drugs"
Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Black Rock City...

EVERY legislative district which has decriminalized drug use, has reaped the benefits of lower usage, lower problems, lower impact, lower court, enforcement, and incarceration costs.

F*CK every shiathead that tries to legislate how people cope with the impossible inequities in life.

F*CK every drug abstinence only god botherer who hates CBD solutions to PTSD and epileptic seizures.

Whats up with the People's Republic thing, submitter? Marijuana convictions shouldbe erased. And the War of Drugs was a failure and it did target minorities. Are you stupid? These are all true facts.

Because prohibition didn't work the first time and all the people who think it has any potential to work this time are insane in both the facile "trying the same thing over and over expecting a different result" sense and the literal sense of being disconnected to obvious reality on a level the borders on schizophrenia?

I mean... there are entire genres of literature predicated on prohibition being probably the most obvious and distinctive failure of public policy in the entire history of mankind going back to the farking stone age.  This isn't some obscure, indirectly-derived fact that you have to be a professional historian to pick up on.  There is more argument about the sky being blue and water being farking wet that there is about this... we literally passed a constitutional amendment acknowledging it.

So... I can't even call the people pushing modern prohibitions idiots.  "Idiot" implies that you possess some sort of inherent intelligence that you're not using, and that you can somehow be at fault for your poor decision-making.  Prohibitionists are stupid on a level where I'm half-sure they don't actually qualify as sentient.  They're like middling-stupid on the scale traditionally applied to dogs and horses, they don't even approach qualifying for the scale used to measure human intellect.

"Idiot" means stupid and used to be a medical term for the mentally disabled. You infer it means ignorant, which it doesn't. Which is ignorant of you.

I voted for Moon, but I am of the opinion and was then too that Durkan would make a fine mayor too.

It's still weird to have choices and more than one decent candidate running, even in the general.  I just can't get used to having responsible government after spending decades in Arizona and Texas.

So from 1920 to 1933 alcohol was prohibited in America. A scant yet vocal minority of the populous regarded the Devils water as the end all be all of societies woes, thus obviously in need of containment. Completely disregarding logic, reason, and about 250 thousand years of human behavior we went for abstinence with gusto and aplomb. Only, what the abolitionists didn't tell us was that would cause far worse problems than they were trying to solve. Welcome the origins of the mafia. Sure, alcohol abuse is bad. You know what's worse? Getting machine gunned going to a goddamn movie, caught in the crossfire of the new gangland warfare. It only took us 13 years before we realized that legislating morality is a fools endeavor before we collectively came to our senses and decided to end the debacle. And so we sat back and laughed at how silly we were while striving to create a utopian society and oh shiat no wait, the marijuana tax act passed four years later. Can't have those uppity "you know what" folk daring to step on white peoples shadows so fark it, let's repeat this catastrophic experiment but so...so much worse this time. And here's a thought, this time we should ignore all the damage this insane policy does. I'm sure nothing bad will happen.

FTFA: This front of the failed war on drugs had a clear racial bias and disproportionately targeted and impacted communities of color in our state. Even though studies in Washington State show use rates were the same, African Americans were arrested for marijuana possession at 2.9 times the rate of whites. Latinos and Native Americans? They were arrested at 1.6 times the rate of whites.

How is this possible when racism only exists in the South?
