Good on Scarlett, guessed it was her. A shame there is nowhere near the money in Sc2 that there used to be, but that's part of the nature of the beast in gaming.

Why is there a North Korea tournament?

I wonder how many times per match she said "sorry"

Yes. I hear their knuckle dragging asses every time a woman has the temerity to say anything on voice chat in a match.

How much of that is them dismissing you because you're a woman and how much is them just being awkward and trying to make conversation on a topic you're obviously interested in and a painful lack of the social skills to make it not insulting? Because I've definitely done the second thing. I felt like a real dunce.

It's been a case of "you didn't cast Aimed Shot this one time and yet you have higher DPS than me. Let me tell you the best rotation even though most of the time you beat me". It's not a case of me tuning out advice, it's a case of a man telling me "women can't play hunters, so let me tell you how you should do it".

Don't Lag Me Bro: Scarlett played one of the most impressive games in SC2 history here:
[Youtube-video https://www.youtube.com/embed/jIygo3bIVmo]
But holy fark that was 5 years ago. I can't believe she is still playing. But yah, she is a transexual so waving the 'woman power' banner is probably not right angle for her story.

One of the biggest challenges for any "e-sport" is making it work as a spectator experience.  Unless the game can be played on a single or split screen, you're always going to be at a disadvantage.

That said, I'm impressed by how easily I was able to follow that game.  The only thing I would change is making the resource rate a permanent part of the interface.  Scarlett's worker advantage didn't always translate into a resource advantage.

GregoryD: It's a distinct advantage of Zerg to be able to techswitch in the midgame.

You want to make things interesting?  Best of three and you can't pick the same race twice.

I helped my friend setup an Internet / Gaming cafe, it was an interesting QoS challenge, and was taken aback a bit by the way people acted. I commented on it and he said that's why he made anyone playing multiplayer games (normally the cafe software just kept the volume down) use headsets. The amount of times he'd heard some idiot screaming "you idiot" playing WoW (UO, SC, and when I went back later to update the network gear LoL, CS:GO, et al.) followed by an in-depth tutorial of how to play a class / race / character / et al. was common. It didn't matter if it was a 12yo kid, 20-odd year old male or female, or a 40yo male - someone always was "explaining" things to them because they knew better. This was on top of the smack talk you'd hear in many games.

You can call it being mansplained, and maybe you were, but it's also possible you - like many people - just play with know-it-all arseholes.

What does that have to do with being a woman?
You think it doesn't happen to men? I bet it happens to men more than it happens to women.
I've even had women rage at me in Overwatch, so don't act like women are something special, or that you're the only ones that get abuse.

You asked if "people are still of the mind that women can't play video games". I answered your question with my own experiences. Never once did I state that the reverse can't happen. Way to assume things about me without any basis for it.

Just going to add that in MMOs I've played, I've been told how to play my class in in-game chat (when not on voice -- relevant for this discussion) a number of times, and it probably happens about 5-6 times as often when playing on a female toon than a male one (even adjusting for frequency of play between characters). If you're even perceived as female, regardless of your actual gender, you're far more likely to get mansplained to (and also sexually harassed/propositioned, etc.). After the first few times it happened to me, I pretty much lost any doubt I had (which wasn't much) about how prevalent that bull**** is.

Sometimes mansplaining is really just how guys treat everyone. Isn't that what feminism is about, equality?

That's very interesting. My brother would roll female characters on WoW, I should ask him if he had that experience .
