I think for $100,000 I could find the time to travel to Topeka, but that's just me.

Or the outside of the freezer...

The freezer is the FIRST place anyone searching the house looks.

I imagine with as much wisdom as they've shown, that $100k will last them the rest of their lives - but only because they're pretty damn old already.

didn't have time to claim their $100,000 lottery prize

They're like 80. What the hell are they so busy doing?

My recent bad luck, if I did that, the frozen thing would crumble in my hands when I took it out of the freezer, with all the pieces falling to the floor.

They're lucky it didn't get covered with frost and then as it warmed up, get wet and blur.  Because then its worthless.

Doctor appointments.  Do you have any ideas how many doctors old people have?  And those appointments are hard to get and have to be coordinated.  Would you give up your colonoscopy and have to redo all that prep for a measly 100k?  And what if you got your eyes dilated and couldn't see to drive?  Farmer's markets are already under assault, and you with your bad eyes and messed up colon are just thinking about getting that money.  You should feel bad about endangering all those people.

I can understand the wait.  they may have had family matters to attend to and generally they have a year to claim their winnings.

Moving valuables out of their house because they're going to be targets now?

"We're stupid people, and we won an inconsequential prize that will forestall our inevitable deaths for one year.  How do we parlay this into a reality-TV empire like the Cardassians?"

If I won $100k... I have time to go collect the winnings.  Call in sick to work, reschedule doctor appointments, etc.

On the rare occasions we buy one, that's where we stick them until we remember to take them and have them scanned. $6? You lucky bastard!

And for old people, arranging to go somewhere can be more difficult than young people could possibly imagine.  Is there public transportation going there?  How far will they have to walk to make their connections?  Will there be somewhere to farking sit down while they wait for the bus or train?  Can they make it back home in time to take care of certain messy inconvenient medical necessities that just can't be addressed while on the road?
