You'd think with all that cash Bruce might get a little therapy and move on with his life.

We need a "Time to stop posting" meme, but with the WB/DC logo.  "Time to stop rebooting".  They really need to just scrap everything, wait about a decade, then start fresh with a real gameplan for the 2030's.

2018-02-08 03:38:57 PM
Probably it's a bad idea for a character's greatest nemesis to be involved in the origin story since that kind of limits your stories to "all downhill from there."

I'm down with Jaquin for the joker.  I loved his last role:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84jPxEkQ7Wk

According to the article, it's a joker origin story and does not mention batman at all.

The Joker needs an origin story like Martha Wayne needs another pearl necklace.

/the jewelry, you pervs!

For what it's worth the article mentions being a Joker origin movie, so unless they go the Tim Burton route and have the Joker kill Martha (WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!?) and Thomas, we should be spared another batman origin.

My real complaint though is the Joker only works in moderation. The more you think about the character the more it falls apart because after the second or third time he gasses an entire city people are going to stop putting him in Arkham and execute him instead. Batman has one of the best rogue's galleries in comic books and it's disappointing how they keep using the same villain over and over.

Also the fact that Leto isn't in the picture is hilarious to me considering how much he tried to get into the character and ended up looking like a tool.

2018-02-08 03:45:44 PM
Christopher Nolan: The Joker shouldn't have an origin story, he's scarier and more interesting if he just comes out of nowhere. Box office: 1 billion dollars

WB: You know what the joker needs? an origin story.

So should we start complaining that the Joker does not need an origin story any more than Michael Myers needed an explanation for killing.  To me, he has been the embodiment of chaos, he showed up to give Batman a really bad day and decided that is what he wanted to do from then on.  I don't want to know he came from a bad childhood, an uncle touched his no no place, no getting cursed by a statue of Loki that he tried to stall from a museum...he needs no history, that is one of the things Tim Burton did wrong with the Joker that Nolan did right in my opinion (though I still prefer Nicholson as Joker but neither can touch Hamill's portrayal).

From TFA:
Insiders stress that Jared Leto, who starred in "Suicide Squad" as the Joker is still on board as the character in the DC universe and that this Phoenix has no effect on what happens with Leto's character in future DC films.

So Variety needs editors and WB is going to start running parallel DC movies that don't have anything to do with the DC movies they already make. This plan promises some really thoughtful and well-considered movies.

So the article makes it sound like they're trying to make a one-shot/non-continuity live-action label for DC. Mite be cool. If they just say fark it and go full "I prefer it to be multiple choice" and tell a bunch of wild disconnected Joker origins with him (sort-of) narrating it I'd be on board.

He was bit by a radioactive bat, but didn't become a hero until his archenemy traveled back in time to kill his mom.

Do you know how I got this scar?

The only way I see this really working is if they clone Heath Ledger, quickly raise him to adulthood in a growth chamber, teach him to act, and then cast him in the role.

Or they could cast anyone else, and have Mark Hamill do all the dialogue.

I have an idea... how about all the Jokers get origin stories? Like a malevolent demon that inhabits men who got shat on by life so hard they turn to super villains.

I like Joaquin Phoenix, and I think he can pull off the Joker.

It's just that we really don't need this movie. If they'd used Joaquin in Suicide Squad, it would have been a much better movie.
