Good headline.

The Cavs are a shiatshow and have been a shiatshow for most of the season.

There's little out there to indicate that LeBron's staying and everyone else is probably preparing to get out as soon as he does.

Question is, where would he go? He has a no-trade clause which he  has said he will not waive, and his price is very high. Worth every penny, but who the hell is paying for LeBron James besides Golden State?

Maybe. But even if the Lakers add LeBron AND George, are they beating the Warriors? Or the Rockets?

If his goal is winning titles, are the Lakers the best option? Maybe staying in the East is a better bet.

7 game series are odd ducks and teams drop off when you least expect it. The Shaq-Kobe Lakers were never ever going to lose until the Pistons beat them and they fell apart immediately. While GSW are cream of the crop, they could just as easily vanish as previous top teams. Even if not, you can still see upsets like the first unbeatable Heat team loses to the Mavs.

That; it's part of the reason they made this trade.  They want two max level contract players and one of them's LeBron.

LeBron wants part of the entertainment pie; what better place than Hollywood to get at it?

Now, to you me and everyone else who looks at the current state of SS Cleveland, you're right.

1) Why would the Lakers hand the keys over to LeBron? Especially how he's had a hand in hirings/firings and trades.
2) Why go to a conference that has two stacked teams, possibly three if the OKC situation pans out?

But, it's the Lakers; they go big or they don't go, period.  They've always been like that.

It's a no-brainer move for the Lakers. Of course you add LeBron if you can. But they will need more than him to compete in the West.

Yup. Gilbert's either an idiot by paving the way for one of LeBron's summer suitors to sign him, or this is a not-so subtle "here, I'm basically helping you pack your bags" move from him, since you can also make the case that Gilbert is just as fine with letting LeBron walk this summer and starting over, because you know he has the ego to think he can rebuild a team.

LeBron is leaving Cleveland whether Gilbert is an idiot or not. Kyrie knew it and demanded off the sinking, soon-to-be-rebuilding ship. Management knows it and is preparing accordingly. LeBron has no one but himself to blame for this season. Neither his words nor past actions inspire confidence that he would stay.

Reportedly Gilbert wants to sell the Cavs; so he's looking to cash out knowing that a) the only way is down from here and b) even, with the prospect of HS players being draft eligible again, there's no Jordan/LeBron on the horizon that he can tank for.  Gilbert made nice for LeBron's return knowing that his businesses around NE Ohio would benefit.  Now, especially after LeBron's becoming pseudo-GM as well during his 2nd run, he's had enough.

I don't hate this trade as I did when I heard it on the radio, stuck on the farking 405 (which might have something to do w/ it). We didn't lose Ingram or Randell, we get the second best thing Cleveland had (the pick), and we get cap space. Just scared that Isiah Thomas might poison the locker room. Luke's gonna farking earn his check the next couple of months.

It's all about the cap space. IT will be gone in July, so...

Oh FFS the "Lebron to Lakers" meme is beyond stupid

1. They suck out loud in their current setup
2. They show no signs of not sucking out loud
3. Lavar Ball, lol
4. The West is hyper-competitive, and as such it will take more than just LBJ and PG to make the LAL stop sucking out loud
5.  If that's their end game they sure made a weird way of showing it by picking up IT, all but guarantees they're dropping his ass at the end of the season, which I'm sure will make IT just oh so happy to play for them yup totally won't poison the locker room at all

Lakers did, but it was about dumping Clarkson's contract and freeing up cap space for this summer. The Cavs might be better for it, since IT has been terrible.

His whining the last 2 months and throwing everyone under the bus killed any 'feel bad' feelings I might have had for his situation.

His injury and attitude is going to cost him $10s of millions.

I don't think that's right at all... as a matter of fact I'm pretty damn sure if he KNEW LeBron was going to be gone after this year he probably would have been quite happy to say a Cav.  For whatever reason (the guilty party depends on whom you like more) he and LeBron could not get on the same page.

2018-02-08 05:59:02 PM
One thing everyone also needs to realize is that LeBron is no spring chicken.  He is 33 three and while he has high level years left, how many? There is an awful lot of mileage on his body with all the playoff games and almost full game minutes for seasons after season so if things start falling apart, he can go downhill in a hurry.  I am not saying the Lakers won't go for him, but depending on the contract length, that salary cap hit could be massive for years after he is done physically.

LeBron as a player can make your team instantly better.  But between the disruption he will cause management to cater to him, and the physical risks, I just don't know how thrilled I would be to pull the trigger to get him.  I still think your have to do it because you will be destroyed by your fanbase if LeBron wants to come to your team and you refuse, but thinking longer term, I am not sure the gamble is as sure as thing as most think.

He played his hand so poorly here that it's hard to feel bad for him. I totally understand that he wants to get paid next season, that said; trying to (reportedly) turn the entire locker room against Kevin Love and jack up the second most shot attempts on the team while you're otherwise playing like ass because you're nowhere near 100% fitness is no way to ingratiate yourself to your current team, nor the rest of the marketplace.

What they 'are' is different than what they were yesterday., and if they were a shiatshow yesterday, all the more reason to make some bold moves.

There's also little to indicate he's leaving.   and even if he does, Cleveland is better situated for the future after these moves.        Its like you're suggesting Cleveland should just give up, because LeBron might leave.  Guess what?  LeBron won't be on 30 other teams next year either.

Hell, I'm a C's fan and even I think this is still Toronto's conference to lose this year. Which, knowing Toronto, they probably will, but still; DeRozan is finally shooting 3's and Casey finally figured out that giving minutes to athletic young guys and otherwise playing Valunciunas only about 20 minutes a night is actually beneficial.
