If your organization's name begins with "USA" and is followed by the name of a sport, you're probably going to have a bad time in the near future.

US Swimming has banned a number of persons from the sport for life in the recent past. Many of those were banned for sexual issues. Some of these persons include bigwigs in the sport like Everett Yuchiyama (former head of the federation) and Rick Curl (he founded the biggest swim club in the DC area). This is probably not the start of a reckoning for the sport.

You mean now that we have a sexual assaulter-in-chief that spurred a movement of women who are trying to tear down the towering edifice of misogyny that he stood on in order to get elected?

Doesn't seem that "funny" to me.

I was simply rebutting a stupid argument. It was political in nature, so it required a political response. And it seems fairly uncontroversial to me to suggest that the election -- and the candidate's generally appalling behavior towards women -- helped kickstart the generalized rebellion of women against the status quo. The women's march was explicitly held on Trump's inauguration day, after all. Pointing that out is not "politicizing" anything.

Nothing will be done to make things better for any similar organization until prosecutions are sought for the upper-level people in the organizations who knew and didn't do anything, as well as, and especially, their lawyers - especially those who write up NDAs covering payments for criminal activity and the like.

I guess its pretty remarkable that all the coaches i ever had were stand up men who were interested in teaching sports and character. and this was the day and age where your folks dropped you off at practice if you were lucky. none of this have to stay all through practice and all that stuff they have parents due to combat this crap.

But but I will pay you very good money but there will be. I wish that wasn't so either but I know someone who has worked with a number of pedophiles professionally as a psychologist and and she's very convinced that there is an organic component to pedophilia and that it is somewhat related to obsessive compulsive disorder and so pedophiles rarely have one or two victims but generally 50 or 60.

Some will fare better than others.  Some engaged this situation years ago, preemptively.  Sadly USA Gymnastics and USA Swimming were late starters.

Sure. But we're a pretty long way off from being able to stop people before their first crime.

Besides, exercise depletes your lifetime reserve of energy. Or so I've been told.

I propose we stuff Chris Hansen into the cloning booth immediately.  The children will not be safe until each and every one has their very own Chris to watch over them.

unfortunately I think that's probably true. any situation where there's an extreme power dynamic differential seems tailor made for abuse. volunteer suburban soccer parents who work with kids that can barely run the right direction on the field are one thing; young phenoms who move halfway across the country to work with the best coaches in the world on their way to the Olympics are quite another. kids in the latter group grow up learning that in order to be the best, they have to take whatever their coaches, trainers, doctors, etc dish out. verbal/mental/emotional abuse are par for the course, even accepted, expected, and encouraged; that other forms of abuse and exploitation are also rampant should probably not be surprising, sadly.

and it's not just renowned-coach-with-star-athlete where that power dynamic exists - take wards of the state who have never had positive adult influences in their lives that are vulnerable to Jerry Sandusky types, or alter boys who are taught their priests are directly in contact with God. while mercifully the vast majority of such authority figures aren't pedophiles, the situations are ripe for abuse in every sense of the word.

Truth be told, I have no clue what an Ork or Orc means. I just remember hearing it in passing and associating it properly apparently.

Have you never seen Night Court?  That time Dan, Roz and 2 sumo wrestlers were trapped in an elevator, and Dan could only relax by imagining himself naked.  Rule 34 was right there for whoever wanted to imagine it.  I didn't, I was a kid, but even then I thought, "what the heck is about to happen?".
