(ESPN)   So what does St. John's do for an encore after upsetting No.4 Duke? Not much ... just a stunning win over No.1 ranked Villanova   ( espn.com) divider line

They still have a losing record. This was their first conference win of the season (they even got blown out at home by freaking DePaul), and it's on the road at the #1 team in the country. Just an absolutely bizarre 3 game stretch from them (hung tough with #5 Xavier in the game before the Duke win), out of nowhere.

As long as it doesn't affect the Friars getting in the NCAAs, I'm all for embarrassing the Vilecats.

Nova's been bitten by the injury bug the past couple weeks. Already lost Booth (11.6 ppg) with a broken hand and Paschal (10 ppg) had an ugly fall on Sunday and developed concussion symptoms yesterday and was ruled out just before the game. Three Freshman played a combined 82 minutes in that game last night.

Not an excuse, but I wouldn't call it an embarrassing loss.

Can anyone explain this?  Seriously.  I watched this game last night and it was surreal.  I mean, St. John is a bad team, right?  They're like 1-11 in their conference.   Yet Villanova played like they were the ones who were intimated - and they were playing at home!  WTF?!

I think losing Paschal unexpectedly just before tip-off affected them big-time. Villanova isn't a big program for "one-and-done" players, so they rarely rely heavily on Freshman and they started 2 last night due to injuries and a third played significant minutes. Not having Booth and Paschal definitely hurt. Hopefully Paschal only misses the one game and Booth is back before the tournament.
