I'm sorry but I can't get worked up just because one version of invisible sky daddy conflicts with another version of invisible sky daddy. To me this is just more evidence that it's all made up by human beings. When you can essentially think "I imagine it to be so and therefore it is so" (which is what you're doing by being "faithful"), anything from the worst atrocities to the greatest human achievements are possible. (And the joke is that the perpetrators don't put the credit where it belongs: on themselves.)

Listen up "oppressed" masses: when the police push their way into a church during services, and arrest everyone solely for being Christians, then you can claim persecution. Not being able to force your way of life on everyone else isn't it.

Someone's missing the point here. Claim to be a "Christian" while acting the opposite and you get to be the President. Actually live according to the teachings of Jesus and you get thrown in jail due to the policies of the "Christians".

The *Actual* Persecution of *Actual* Christians In Trump's America

FTFY. Actual-Christians are being persecuted, whether they identify as atheist, agnostic, Jewish, Muslim, or Christian, the "stupid libs" that literally embody everything Jesus stood for are under constant threat and intimidation by gun-toting, poor-hating, immigrant-ejecting, white-supreming selfish money worshippers who've stolen Jesus's name and corrupted his message to be closer to that of Lucifer's.

Actual-Christian persecution is a very real thing; "Christian persecution" isn't but truly needs to be.

According to Jewish legend, one of the events that lead to Sodom's destruction is when a woman was severely punished for giving food to a begger.

So, those people who say that if God doesn't punish America then he owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology? They're right, but not in the way they think.

Their faith says to give food water and shelter to the needy...doing so gets them arrested because they are possibly aiding an illegal alien. Id call this equivalent. No more deaths is considered a neutral party. They are not creating or enabling the crossing of the border, only providing aid to those in need after seeing too many deaths from dehydration. They aren't forcing a religion on others but doing what they believe is right (in this case argued from a religious perspective. While religion is not necessary to not be a horrible human being, they are arguing it is a command from a religious perspective personally).

To be fair, every large enough religion has their super horrible right wingers and the rest (id point out the left wingers but when their version of being radical is "be kinder" and they tend to stay more out of official politics as far as saying you will rot in hell if you vote different).

Ive seen some very good catholics who believe in caring for the poor and providing care but there is a whole group that is basically equivalent to the stereotypical evangelicals preaching some prosperity gospel levels of stuff.

Ah ha ha ha ha!  Christians actually acting like Christians.  Ah ha ha ha ha ha.  What a f**king joke.

When was the last time the happened?  A decade ago?  Once, Obama became president, all of their racism came spewing out.  Currently , they all suck Satan's helper dick AKA Donald Trump and then lie about what Jesus said.

F**k them all.  They are all liars.  Look how they gather around a fat, lying, pile of sins and praise him as the second coming of Christ.

Tell me Trump christians, what single verse in the New Testament that was presented by Jesus that matches any aspect of Trump.  Not some rationalize parable that stretches through a typically twisted, f**ked up gyration to create a tenuous match, but a real obvious one-for-one match up.  If there is none, your faith is of no consequence as are you.

The ultimate in human copouts right?  Religion is just a way for humans to dodge responsibility for all the horrible shiat it doesn't want to feel bad about.  As terrible as the movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was, one line stuck with me. "Humans have been enslaving each other for as long as they've been inventing gods to forgive themselves for it".  Growing up in a super religious family helped me see how horrible people truly are to one another when they try to hide behind their false piety.  I watched pastors embezzle money, cheat on each other with fellow church members and then just try to wash all of it away with a "god has forgiven me so it's all good now". fark all that.

I feel for you. I, too, have had my share of expriences with stupid humans. On the other hand, some of my favorite people have been Christians. At my fathers funeral, the pastor described some of his early conversations with him and talked about his reticence to join the church. He summarized it with the sentence - "It takes a very small person to hide behind a hypocrite". Apparently that phrase rang true with my dad and helped him look beyond his prejudices.
I don't claim to have any idea how the universe really works but science is the best language to describe it and I really like what Jesus had to say about how to get along with others.

Ribb Rotgut: There should be some kind of compromise with these things and getting whipped up into a righteous lather because a baker doesn't agree with my relationship is a mistake, a total misplacement of priorities and fuels backlashes.

They already condemn us to hell, refuse our business, and try to deny us equal protection under the law.  While I do agree that discrimination in the service industry is not the biggest problem, what backlash are you worried about from a group of people that consider the LGBT community to be subhuman already?

I was wondering the same thing. As a non-religious person i occasionally like to see religious (christian) people actually do what was commanded of them by Jesus (according to their holy book). I am NOT surprised, however, when these people are persecuted by other "christians" for doing so. It's like the people of some workforce telling a new guy not to work so hard because it'll make THEM look bad.

But i'm also not surprised not many people here actually rtfm. Welcometofark.jpg and all that.

They are both firmly on the right.

Well, I've heard there are Catholic leftists, but it's very clear the leadership of the Catholic Church is pretty right wing and long ago threw their big hats in with the Evangelicals in an alliance over anti-abortion issues.  When they started basically demanding that loyal Catholics always vote Republican because voting for any pro-choice politician was a sin, that was the point they had well and truly gotten into bed with the Religious Right.

Boudyro: I agree "christian" bakers are being idiotic. But could we say the same about a baker who refused to make a Nazi-themed cake? Just like being gay isn't illegal, it's not illegal to adhere to Nazi philosophy. Just morally repellent to a subset of the genral population. An ideological neutral approach means you bake the Nazi cake, jsut as easily as you bake the gay one.

Stop this. Enough with this tired old false equivalence. Nazis and gay people are not the same thing. Nazis are not a protected class. I'm sorry to get cranky but how many times does it need to be explained that gay marriage is not the same as Nazis, it's not the same as marrying your dog, it's not the same as pedophilia. The only comparison that vaguely works is race. Now say what you said again, except say "Black" instead of Nazi.

So, I read an article about people trying to help other people from dying in the desert. They were arrested for leaving water and supplies in the desert. The U.S. government would rather these people die in the desert. As an atheist, I think this is reprehensible, and that characteristics such as mercy and compassion are necessary for any human society.

There is a loud group of assholes who claim to have some sort of moral high ground, but this group spends most of its energy trying to institutionalize hatred and selfishness.

Both the people trying to help people and the people who harm people call themselves by the same name, and that's bogus.

Also, references to religion are scattered throughout the article.
