(Snopes)   No, Facebook isn't using an algorithm that limits your feed to only a few friends. The problem is you just don't have any friends   ( snopes.com) divider line

The solution is to not use Facebook.

foo monkey: The solution is to not use Facebook.

Yep. I have too many "friends", most of them the salt of the earth.

What I want to know is how they determine what posts are "Most Recent" since that list always seem include a bunch of stuff from days ago.

A lot of people are over Facebook. If I'm seeing the same people post all the time it's because they're the only ones who are posting on a regular basis. Also, I muted a bunch of people a while ago and forgot about it. They post regularly too but I just never see it. I mean, I like being able to face these people in real life without remembering that they write WAKE UP PEOPLE as part of almost every post.

I just want Facebook to show all and sort chronologically.

BS FB doesn't do that. You are limited to 20 people that you 'see first' the others rarely appear. For most this is automatically set if you don't know about the setting.

Bullshjt.  I have friends on Facebook that are marked close friends, who I'm following, who aren't blocked and such, and I usually scroll until I see a series of posts I recognize in the same order.  Yet I go to their profile and see all kinds of posts I never saw, shared with friends.  If it were the occasional post here and there I don't remember I could see it.  A whole wall?  No f-ing way.

Something in there is curating what you see based on what they think you want to see or what they think you'll click on (and they're usually off, sometimes way off, on both).

Facebook's feed has really just become a news feed for specific sports teams and bands that I like, with the occasional post from friends I haven't blocked from the news feed.  Don't check it that often, but seems fine when I do.  Really, it's just useful for arranging events.

This is what I hate about those kinds of algorithms. Just because I liked something doesn't mean that's all I want to see. I get bored without variety. People like novelty.

And while I'm complaining, when I take the time to report something "I don't want to see this again." "This is irrelevant to my interests." Don't mute it for a week then come back with it. It's like when I was a kid and asked "uh, what is this?" about a new food and was told, "It's your favourite!" No. It's not.

You're right. I don't have any friends. I have my wife and family and that's about it. I stopped using Facebook a long time ago. I was tired of keeping up with high school and college people I never talked to. Once a year, I get Happy Birthday notifications with people saying "We need to catch up". I don't really want to talk to them and I'm sure they don't really want to talk to me.
Do yourself a favor and dump Facebook. If you never see someone in person, they're not really a friend

apparently that technology is years off, if not decades.

had someone criticize me for "not using critical thinking skills" and they posted clickbait in the same thread about how Obama is president of the deep state.

I have five family members on the facebook, so I can get photographs of the nieces and nephews and a few other things. I wish it did limit more. I don't want to see 200 recommendations for people I don't know.

Ah, see here the problem is you do have friends ... they're just boring and don't do much.

Stop using facebook. In fact, stop giving free imformation out to the world because you think people give two fark's about what you had for breakfast.

Stop allowing this 1984 distopia to happen right in front of your eyes. Stop playing into it.

And while you're at it get your butts off of Twitter, too.

To me one of the biggest improvements Facebook could put in would be a flood control: the ability to limit how many items any one person puts up will be seen. And I would apply it to EVERYONE. The feeds are hijacked by those who want to post dozens of things a day.  I'd rather they'd pick a handful of items in a day at most and those who do so should get the priority.   And if such rules mean that I'll finish the news feed quickly, so be it.

When I got done unfollowing all the trumptards, feminazis, people pimping their etsy delusions, meme shiatposters,  etc, I was left with a small handful of people who post a photo of their kids, vacation, dog or whatever every couple days. My FB feed is almost static lately.

They used to do that. Then, after the eliminated it you could get a Facebook plugin to do it again for you. They didn't like that, so they deleted it.

They REALLY don't want you to see everything your friends post in chronological order.
