Here's another nasty little secret -- none of the Republicans, and Trump in particular, never gave a shiat about Dreamers.  They were always viewed as bargaining chips who should not let the door hit them on the ass on their way out.

They'll care about the debt just long enough to use it to justify slashing Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

They've done this for 40 years.  Literally ALL the debt started with Reagan, and magically goes up every time a Republican is president.

And when it all crumbles, you can pledge your fealty to one of the last standing billionaires.

Trumpets and MAGAts have always had trouble with causality, especially if any temporal variables are involved.

But this all seems remarkably obvious and closely packed.

Surely they can see it this time.

Republicans are huge hypocrits in everything they do. Unless it benefits them it is bad. We get it.

I realize the need to you know, show documentation, but it's so old, obvious news that this is "grass is green" level Ric Romeroism. Calling the GOP on their rhetoric is pointless, you're not going to convince anybody who doesn't already believe it.

I hadn't seen that one before.

Consider it stolen, good sir or ma'am.

Yeah, they didn't matter so much that his successor had to break his main campaign promise to combat the spending hole Reagan created.

And the thing is, any Republican would do this.  Trump is completely unfit to hold any office, but any Republican would have sent us to the brink of collapse.  It's what they do. And we wise up and throw them out, the Dems fix things as well as they can, the public becomes complacent, and we elect another Republican cretin to start the cycle all over again.

One of these times it won't be fixable though.  I hope we're not there yet.

Heh,
What do they actually care about besides pleasing their 1% donors? When was the last GOP presidency that operated with a balanced budget? (Nixon)   The only thing that they will proffer are stupid wedge issues to stoke fear from their reactionary base. And the common clay of the US, (you know, morons), will predictably empty their wallets and turn their pockets inside out for their owners once again.

If reporters and moderators do not laugh at any Republican who brings up deficits when Democrats are in control, then the press can no longer even claim to be remotely impartial. Impartiality has to involve looking at reality and basing judgement on things that keep happening. Republican only care about deficits when they want to attack Democrats. They're horrible for deficits, and they have been since at least the 1980s.

And when I say reporters and moderators should laugh, I don't mean a polite chuckle or merry titter. I want full-on guffawing. I want pointing while busting a gut. If any Republican dares mention deficits during a debate, the moderator needs to stop everything and encourage the audience to point and laugh. There is no other reality-based reaction that isn't violent that would accurately reflect how much Republicans have lost the right to bring up deficits for any reasons other than to apologize.

They won't cut benefits for "the olds." The olds would notice and raise a stink. They'll cut benefits for people 55 and younger. 55 year olds are too busy paying off their mortgages to notice. 45 years are too busy paying  off their kids' college tuition. 35 year olds are too busy paying off their student loans. 25 year olds are too busy getting laid & high to notice. C'est accompli.

Republicans, Democrats, it's all about getting elected and reelected. This is the only principle that most of them have. This time, the Republicans are trying to push beyond the election issues that may hurt them at the polls.

More Millenials will be voting than Boomers in 2020, but sure

I think the GOP will yet again discover they don't have what it takes to cut the safety net. They can barely gut Obamacare and wrangle enough votes to pass legislation through their Convicted Pedophile Hastert Rule, yet they waltz around thinking they can just slash SS and no one will notice? Nah that's definitely not how that will go down, and if they try before November it will just be one more nail in the coffin. What a clownshow.

I hate to be that guy but I don't think that meme means what you think it means.
I mean I get what you were going for, but that image does not depict that. That image shows someone who actually looks surprised while the caption indicates that the speaker is not actually surprised.
So which are you? Surprised or "surprised"? Because I'm thinking it's the latter but even if that's the case your image is still confused about which one you are.

Hold on now, do you mean that the accounting gimmicks that GW's administration used to keep the costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars out of the budget weren't just a one-off?  You mean that when they secretly added a trillion dollars of extra-budgetary debt that they didn't just make an honest mistake and actually meant to do that?  You mean they were lying?

You mean when Reagan spent all the social security money on missiles in the '80s (after all, US treasury bonds are some of the safest investments in the world <wink>) that wasn't just a case of one hand in a large bureaucratic organization not knowing what the other hand is doing?

I'm shocked!  Well, not that shocked.  And now we're out of cookie jars to raid.  We might have to start demanding protection money from our allies.  Nice country you've got here President, it'd be a shame if it got nuked...
