If he respected the troops then he'd, I dunno, visit them or, as an active duty Farker pointed out earlier today, attend the parades we've already had for them instead of playing yet another f#cking round of golf.

fusillade762: Impromptu displays of military might are a sign of deep national weakness and insecurity.

Trump's not the cesspool of US sociopolitics, he's the mirror.

On the other hand that money could be used to help veterans, homeless or otherwise.

I know, an idea only a mad man would think made sense.

I hope it makes Mattis choke to have to say crap like this.

If it weren't for all the security and laws I'd be glad to give him a hand or two.

There is no way that any actual member of the armed forces wants to be in a parade.

Raise their pay 3.50 then, Cadet in Chief Bone Spurs.

It would be neat to see all the stuff our tax dollars go to pay for.

/ if I ever run for office, I plan to make some gratis specials for PBS at our nation's museums. Especially the SAC Museum and the Smithsonian Air and Space

I think they might actually be dumb enough to believe that a military parade is going to intimidate North Korea into stopping their pursuit of nuclear weapons, as though NK was somehow completely unaware of our capabilities all this time.

2018-02-07 08:19:03 PM
Cadet Bone Spurs has no affection for the military.  He just uses them as a prop and a backdrop to stroke his moronic base who instantly forget what an evil turd he is as soon as Support Our Troops™ gets mentioned.

2018-02-07 08:20:42 PM
Mattis says Trump's parade request reflects 'affection' for troops

Oh, ok. Then I guess we'll then see a procession down Pennsylvania Ave. of gold bars from Ft. Knox.

If the CiC says they want to, they do. They are specifically trained to do so, especially under penalty of law.

As soon as he leases Mar A Lago to the military to be used as a base, he most certainly will visit them. Blame the obstructionist Dems, crooked Hillary and Obama's Deep State friends for preventing him from spending time with the troops.

Actually..... maybe we should give him a parade and let him get it out of his system.  If we don't, he might start a war just to see all BIG COOL TOYS in action.  God dammitt he's a farking toddler.

Better be careful, all that marching can cause bone spurs.

Affection for the troops.  That's right, nothing says "affection" better than making the troops buy all new uniforms for the inveidible. inspections, pre-inspections, and pre-pre-inspections.  Then making them endure hours of unpaid overtime drilling, drilling and more drilling.  Along with the paining, repainting and repainting of equipment, the hours and hours of standing in the hot sun and drill, drill, drill.

I'm glad I'm retired.

A lot of folks don't realise that the Cheeto Benito will also expect a demonstration of air power.

I was one of the RAF aircrew selected for the post '91 Gulf War flypast. We hated that it cut into our training hours by making us practise the sort of close-formation flying which would never be used in any combat scenario. The engineers hated having to generate extra airframes, the air traffickers hated having to clear large chunks of airspace for our practices, and on the day, the weather was so bad we ended up cancelling everything except a few helicopters because the cloudbase was so low.

Even then, aircraft of many types had to pre-position away from their main operating bases (along with engineering support), large amounts of UK airspace on the approach lanes to the London airports were blocked off until we got the weather call-off (whilst forming up about 80 miles east), and the whole thing was a massive faff for all concerned.

That was for an actual military victory, now scale up the size for the US armed forces and realise that the whole show is so that Two Scoops can play with 'his' toys.

It's not just a parade, there will be millions spent on rehearsals and the logistics of getting all the personnel and equipment into the right places at the right time and then back to their bases. That's on to of the civilian chaos that will be caused across the DC area.

He doesn't give a shiat about the armed forces, he's just trying to boost his own ego.

Fine.  We will see that affection when we parade their caskets down Pennsylvania Avenue.

In fairness, he's had a really hard month what with all those darned victories turning to ash...

So the wee toddler in chief saw a parade and thought to himself "I want a parade". How unfortunate that he didn't see someone tell the truth or a functioning democracy or someone that gave a shiat.

Miss took what you said. You're right, no soldier wants to be, unfortunately we don't have a choice.

"We're all aware in this country of the President's affection and respect for the military," Mattis said.

Now, I freely admit that outside of the shiatbags, I was the least gung-ho Marine I ever met.  All that patriotic rah-rah stuff just wasn't for me.

But being ordered to get into my dress blues and march a couple miles in the summer heat of DC just so some jackass could play with me like a toy is not my idea of being shown affection.

Especially not once you add in that we're not talking about just one parade here.  No CO would want to be the one to have someone mess up drill while walking past the CiC, so any unit involved in this is going to have a couple dozen hours of practice along with it.

2018-02-07 08:47:25 PM
This parade would not promote the military's readiness. It would not strengthen our alliances. It would not implement policy or business practice reforms. It would cost DOD millions of dollars to do something that fits absolutely none of your top three priorities, Secretary Mattis. What the fark are you doing? Are you farking five?

I do.  And outside a few retirement ceremonies for a handful of SNCO's and an officer or two that I really looked up to, and the yearly Marine Corps Ball, there wasn't a single instance of having to do drill that I didn't think "There's any of a dozen different farking things I could be doing right now that would be a better use of my time."

Mattis has a pattern. He will publicly say something that is very "grey" and vaguely supportive but will privately do the opposite. It's been his policy since appointment. He's not dumb. I suspect he views President Dotard like we all do. He knows that parades are a stupid waste of mission. I have little doubt he will make sure this does not happen.

They have them, and the missles to fire them far enough to kill millions and create a global crisis.

What it is, is a proper metaphor for his calls to increase the military budget, build new and bigger nukes, frequently attend rallies vetted to insure they are full of sycophantic supporters, to gratuitously seek out compliments, put his name in big letters on buildings, to dress up his abode in tawdry bits of gilded gewgaws.

Deep down he knows that nobody really loves him, that he's a classless buffoon, that he's ugly, balding, that others are smarter than him, and that he has small hands and a little willy. The Emperor knows he's naked.
