Is this the thing now?  Are people just going back through all their old photos with famous people to find anything that looks/is inappropriate?  Not saying Dreyfus wasn't/isn't a creepster, but this was almost 18 years ago.

By all accounts Dreyfus is a huge piece of shiate, but he had one helluva run in the 70s. American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters, and the Goodbye Girl. Good stuff, there.

Which doesn't really answer the question of whether this is for fifteen minutes of fame or to actually out Dreyfus as a creep. I find it hard to believe that someone has been holding on to this for 18 years and needed closure from her assaulter.  That said, I'm open to that being the case given I've never been groped by a celebrity.

There are even odds that he was stoned/high at the time of this photo.  Not excusing anything, but there is no context here.  Did he just decide to take a hold and grab her butt?  Is touching it, or hovering?  Did she ask him to touch her butt?  Is she touching his?  Who knows.  Who cares.  So what.  Did it make her uncomfortable then?  Did she just laugh it off, shake her finger and say, "oh, you!"?  I don't know, I'm trying hard to care but I don't know how to even anymore.  ::sigh::

Yup.  The first one with grabbing the arse IS a creepazoid move.  The kiss on the cheek - well... heck I try not to even look at women in passing in the office any longer for fear of them saying I was eyeing them in a creep fashion.  I keep my eyes straight and walk down the hall even if they acknowledge me first.  I give Xmas/Birthday gifts to my female support staff (I only have female support staff by random company assignment) and give them a hug - and they hugged me back without an issue.  No longer.  I just leave the gifts on their desks when I know they aren't in.  I don't need any of this shiat coming down on me as being "non-consensual"

Shiat, even on my dart nights that include women on the teams they want a hug when they come in and I back off.  They are saying to me "why?".  I respond that I don't want to be considered a creep.  They have now responded that they think this stuff is being flooded in the media and I now have permission to give them a hug whenever I see them.

HUGS ALL AROUND!!!  Ass grabbing?  That is a different story.

2018-02-07 03:37:35 PM
I don't get some of the people in this thread.  Is there a GOOD reason to be full on grabbing a handful of ass of a new acquaintance in a photo?  It was funny?  Funny how?  Like a clown?  Does it make you laugh?

Maybe just don't make a habit of grabbing a chunk and squeezing and it wont be a problem.

Maybe he was trying to stabilize himself & grabbed onto the nearest large object (aka her buttocks)?

Well, crap.  I've read he's not the nicest guy personally, but professionally, I always had a great deal of respect for his work.  So, of COURSE he had to end up part of this trend.

From TFA:  Beth, an entrepreneur and mother of two, said she finally decided to step forward after the #metoo movement created a more hospitable environment for women to talk about predatory behavior by powerful men.

See, that is a point of contention for me.  "Finally decided to step forward"...after 18 freaking years?  Do you mean to tell me that for nearly two decades these women sat on their hands and waited until there were enough celebrities getting outed for sexual harassment for them to feel comfortable saying something?  I mean, it's not like the Weinstein scandal, where it was a case of "her word against his" and no one would come forward for fear of reprisal until finally one person took a chance and came out unscathed, making it safe for others.  SHE HAD PICTURES TO PROVE IT HAPPENED.  There's visual proof of him being inappropriately hands-y, yet not a peep out of them until nearly 20 years after the fact, when it could get enough media traction.

Straight up, Richard Dreyfuss was wrong for behaving the way he did.  He should know better.  I don't care if he was sober or wasted or whatever; no excuse...he shouldn't have done what he did.  But in this case...that 18-year delay even with photographic proof to back it up seems fishy to me.

EDIT:  Sorry; 14 years.  Me knows the maths goodly.

Still, even with that mistake, it's still an oddly long time to wait on something like that, especially when you've got something to back up your story.

He was diagnosed bipolar some time ago. Not sure if before or after 2004. There is an interview from 2006 (part of a Stephen Frye documentary on his own manic-depression) where he is very open about it.  Anyway, when you are the manic side of it, a lot of "jokes" seem like a god idea at the time, to mucho regret later. Kinda like being really buzzed.

Falling off your meds, even for a day, can give you a small spike to the manic side (depending on the med).

I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences. But if there was a known manic period(s) around this time, and a subsequent adjustment to therapy, then have a lot of understanding about it.

If this is part of a pattern of behavior, then hammer him.

If - and this is a big, important if - he groped her, I don't care why she's speaking out. She has the right. Even if it's just to get back at him.

That part's not really important.  Part of the problem has been that previoulsy it was often very hard for the person to initially complain.  If she's an assistant sound editor and makes a complaint in 1995, it's way more likely that the producers back the star actor and quietly move the assistant sound editor off the project and replace her with another one.  So she very well might have laughed it off, while inwardly she's uncomfortable, but worried about her job.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but do you mean hugging a woman with one hand and grabbing her ass with the other ISN'T inappropriate?  And he isn't just grabbing, he has a squeeze going on there.
