Over here, over there,
As we sell all we dare,
The good times keep rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Pouring endless oil out the spout,
As the good times keep rolling along.

Then it's buy! buy! sell!
As our world goes to hell,
Shout out your grevience loud and strong,
So Fark tomorrow see,
We'll just slide around in glee,
As the good times keep rolling along.

I am old enough to remember sitting in the car, holding our spot in line for gas during the Arab Oil Embargo of the early to mid 70s.  So yes, to me this is "monkey flying out of ass" type news.

Actually the US's environmental standards are way, way better than anything in the middle eastern countries.

There was a period there where stations in Houston were posting signs about minimum sales (10 gallons) while I had a car that barely held that much when run dry. There were a few arguments.

My choices to start driving were the old Volare or a yellow Dodge Omni. Lucky for me I totalled them both in my first year of driving and ended up with a 74' Dodge Dart - a great, terrible, car.

I got y'all beat... my folks went hard for diesel. We ended up riding to school in this embarrassment:

(not our actual car, but it's twin.) This is the Oldsmobile diesel Cutlass, possibly the worst and ugliest piece of crap ever rolled out of Detroit. My parents divorced shortly after, and couldn't afford a newer car, so my Mom grimly drove this pile of junk until 1985. It took twenty minutes to get the damn thing started if it was cold out... like, under 60 degrees cold. If it got below freezing, you were better off walking.

I remember getting ragged at a station on because my car only took 9.3 gallons once. (10 gallons was the minimum and max.) Damn tank was only 11.3 gallons. Idiots were "filling up" and taking a couple gallons. That was really the main contributor to the lines.

And it is light oil not 'heavy' oil so it has less pollution associated such as sulfur.  So yes it actually is beautiful American Clean Oil.  If people actually traveled to the rest of the world they'd realize what a shiat hole nearly every other country is and especially the oil producing ones.  The level of pollution in these countries along with deaths by work hazards (what's a few Bangladeshi workers plus/minus anyway?) is unconscionably high.
