Why does Fox hate Deadpool and/or are completely stupid?

Deadpool was a great movie, but it only won the box office for as long as it did because it came out during the otherwise dead month of February. The movies it was competing against were:

Hail, Caesar!
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
How to Be Single
Zoolander 2
Race (Jesse Owens movie)
Risen
Eddie the Eagle
and Gods of Egypt

But now, instead of doing a February release again, where the only real competition is Black Panther, instead it has a May 18 release date, where it will go up against Avengers: Infinity War and the Han Solo movie.

It's gonna get steamrolled.

Because Ryan Renolds embarrassed them with success on the first one. So, they want to make it a fluke.
That, and at one point,  Cable should have appeared as a supermodel somewhere, perhaps doll form, in the commercial.

In industry terms, Deadpool is a different target audience than Avengers and Solo, since I believe it's still rated R.  Yes, practically speaking, there is a lot of overlap in the audience, but that's not the way execs usually think.

The release schedule this year is a bit odd, in that there's a fairly large movie most weekends rather than all being crammed into summer.  Black Panther gets three weeks essentially to itself, but we then have Wrinkle in Time (3/9), Tomb Raider (3/16), Pacific Rim: Uprising (3/23), Ready Player One (3/30),  Then there's a lull, and Rampage comes out 4/20 alongside Super Troopers 2.  Avengers will be out 5/4 for two weeks, then Deadpool 2 on 5/18 and solo for the Memorial Day weekend.

So, it's not necessarily a bad placement for Deadpool.  I'm not sure how well Solo will do; yes, it's Star Wars, but it's a different kind of Star Wars.  The next thing that might affect it would be Ocean's 8 on 6/8, but really Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on 6/22 is the next big flick.  So, essentially a month with limited competition (Avengers, Solo, maybe Ocean's 8).

Deadpool 2 was originally scheduled for June 1, but they moved it up to put it ahead of Solo by a week instead of behind by one week.  Which then puts it closer to Infinity War. . .

I still want the first Deadpool to be re-released theatrically for a week or two so it can surpass Passion of the Christ as the biggest box office ever for an R rated film.  It's not that far behind in the rankings.  I didn't see it in theaters when it was first released, but really enjoyed it when I did see it, and I'd certainly be willing to buy a ticket to #HelpDeadpoolBeatJesus

I'm half expecting a scene in the next Deadpool that has Jonah Hex, Cable, and Thanos playing strip poker.
The next Deadpool movie would then, of course, be named "Deadpool: 3 Josh Brolins and a Kiera."

I get it that they wanted to make it R rated and turn that stuff up to 110%, but it seemed they overshot

It's far less cursing, crassness, and gore than the comics.  They actually tuned it down a lot for the movie.

It's okay to feel like it was still too much, but that just means you aren't really the target audience.

Yea, the gore was actually toned down compared to modern DP comics. I didn't see DP get impaled with an elephant tusk while is intestines and entrails explode out.

I printed that out and put it in a frame in our bedroom.  WHY my husband puts up with me, I will never know. I guess he figures my random obsessions keep me from being a ball buster so he lets me be.

I can't believe how loaded March is.  Add March 2nd with Death Wish, Game Night and Red Sparrow, plus Isle of Dogs on the 23rd.  Some of those might be stinkers, but Movie Pass will get me through it, if it doesn't melt from over-use.
