A rabble of unwashed fans.
Everyone trying to copy them.

The first and biggest of the boy bands, a position they would later cement for all time with panty-droppers like:

Hey, Jude
A Day in the Life
Eleanor Rigby
Strawberry Fields Forever
Paperback Writer
I Am the Walrus
Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
Across the Universe

Funny...saw the date on my cell phone and thought to myself..."Feb 7th? Feb 7th...that means something" and then in a black and white haze in the back of my mind was Ed and the 4 lads.

Beatle haters, say what you will. I don't care what you think. I happen to like them, their music, their legacy and what they contributed to pop musi and the way it's recorded that changed for everyone that came after them,  and its the soundtrack to my life. You can enjoy your own soundtrack to you your own lives. I won't remind you it sucks. Cause, I'm nice like that.

I read that interview earlier today. I like Quincy's work but he comes across as full of himself and full of shiate.

Miles Davis was a grade-A asshole; doesn't take away the fact he was a ground-breaking jazz artist.

Except for the time The Who outrocked the Stones on their own Rock N' Roll Circus.

The Stones sat on that recording for years because they so thoroughly upstaged them.

There's a really hideously obvious edit in "You Can't Always Get What You Want," too. I suspect whatever that was had something to do with it.

If Miles Davis was singing about not being an asshole then I would have to question his artistic integrity but thankfully his music was so good that words weren't required.

I really can't argue against The Who for the top spot... it's verrrry close but I'm sticking with the Stones for the gun-held-to-my-head answer.  Cuz of the "hits" I suppose??  Lame, I know.

Are you still talking shiat on Lennon?

Beatles were great! I would have loved to see them in their Cavern days; that's when they all said at one time or another (with the exception of Ringo, obviously) they were at their best as a live band.
Just read a Rolling Stones biography and was surprised I didn't know just how contemporary of the Beatles they were - the Stones put out their 1st single right after the Beatles put out their second! You always think "The Beatles were around for a couple years before the Stones" and that's true, in so far as they were an obscure working live band in Germany for a couple years, but to record buyers back then they were pretty much at the same time.
One last funny thing, Ray Davies said "Townsend was competitive, McCartney was fiercely competitive, but Lennon wasn't at all - he just thought everyone else was shiat".

If anyone is at all interested in getting a very good, in-depth, and honest look at The Beatles, check out Mark Lewisohn's Tune In: All These Years. It's the first book of a planned trilogy...takes us from their childhoods up to early 1963 as they are just about to release the 'Please, Please, Me' single and things are going to explode for them. It's a long and detailed book, but is very readable and cuts through all of the mythology and falsehoods that have built up over the years.
