Apparently they've made progress on their school funding, but they're still lagging behind the rest of the state:
According to state reporting on NevadaReportCard.com, per-pupil expenditures in the Clark County School District increased from $6,031 to $8,520 from 2005 to 2015, outpacing inflation by almost $1,200. Still, the district - with all of the needs of a large, urban district - receives less per pupil than any other district in Nevada.

Not sure why we're singling out Vegas for this one. Could apply to any city with a large sports franchise. Or any city that wants one. Or any city that wanted to give billions to Amazon.

"The land, with an appraised value of $12.1 million, was sold to the team for $6.05 million.

Because of the potential for economic development - 250 full-time, non-football jobs and tax revenue - the city was able to sell the land for less than the appraised value."

Oh how lucky.

So the same as any other city....or state...or Federal Government.

The Henderson City Council voted Tuesday to sell the land located near the southwest corner of St. Rose Parkway and Executive Airport Drive to the Raiders, who are slated to move from Oakland and call Southern Nevada home in 2020.

I loathe corporate welfare, but at least get your shiat straight. This isn't Vegas, this is Henderson. please try to be more accurate next time.

I'd be ok with federal legislation making it illegal for local to give sweetheart deals to sports arena groups. Cities bend over for these guys repeatedly and the economic benefit is routinely overstated to a ridiculous degree.

Woah hold on there Satan. If poor people can get government welfare, then its only fair that billionaires can also get government welfare.

Amazon made sports' owners look like girl scout cookie sellers using public sidewalks. Those farkers wanted prima nocta.

I agree with everything here. Philly is still in the running for Amazon. Part of me wants them to win just to get these asshat Republican governor candidates off the air saying that there are no good jobs in all of PA. Also plowing over parts of the city for new infrastructure while it is crappy corporate welfare, may clean up some areas of the city if amazon holds up their jobs promises

And where is Henderson locatedThe city is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, which spans the entire Las Vegas Valley.

Referring to Henderson as Las Vegas is reasonably accurate. We're not surveyors, we're talking about school districts and spending, and both Henderson and Las Vegas are a part of the same Clark County school district. That school district has been having serious problems, so it would seem that Subby's point about giving tax money to a football team instead of the schools is still valid, whether you call it "Las Vegas", or "Las Vegas Valley" or "Henderson".

/Not subby.

Las Vegas is not Henderson, hence Las Vegas did not do this. It doesn't require a "surveyor", just someone who has passed the third grade. And being part of a "metropolitan area' just means that you are a city near a big city. And "valley" is a geographic location.

There is only one way to settle this: if I were to walk from Las Vegas to Henderson in Fallout: NV, how many raiders would I have to decapitate along the way?

That depends... Normally it would be 317, but there's a shortcut that only requires you to kill 4, but they each take 10X the damage before they die. Luckily, you only have to take them on 2 at a time.

What Amazon is proposing is a hell of a lot more impactful than a sports stadium that get used for 10-13 game per year. Bringing in tens of thousands of new consumers to reside there is pretty damned significant.

Now, that doesn't mean they should just say "shut up and take my money" but we are talking very different things.

Except that it's ALL corporate welfare. If they want a new facility, they can build one without handouts.

Why do I get the increasing feeling you live in West Valley City, Bountiful, North Salt Lake, or Pinecrest?

In Florida, even the GOP lawmakers are sick of this shiat.  It's ridiculous.

And it's also ridiculous to give Amazon a subsidy to come to your town and bankrupt 25% of your local business.  With the subsidy paid for by the remaining businesses.

LOL. Bountiful and North Salt Lake are not part of the Salt Lake Metropolitan Area. And Pinecrest is way up Emigration Canyon, and a neighborhood as opposed to a town or city.

I live in Henderson, the furthest part out towards the lake you can go basically.

When friends come out to visit they say I love Vegas.

When I drive to work on the Strip, i'm there in 10-15 minutes (unless a crash obviously), technically you are correct, but in reality when people ask where I live I say Vegas... because that's the thing they understand instantly

Also, people in Henderson generally recognize the place as Hendertucky, it's kinda the safer area of Vegas (less crime by far), mostly inhabited by right-wingers, but safer, less crime

Yeah, I live in a Salt Lake suburb and call it "Salt Lake" most of the time for people who don't live here. But when Cottonwood Heights(Another suburb) does something stupid, I specify that Cottonwood Heights did something stupid, not Salt Lake.

Yeah, on our yearly trip to AZ, when we used to break it up and stay overnight, we almost always stayed in Henderson.
