Robert Trujillo is a better bassist (especially now, because the other guy is like, dead)

He's actually too good for that band, IMO. Probably plays a better six string than Hammett or Hetfield, too.

Cliff Burton should be the Hero of the Day. I, for One, am glad that his memory is no longer Trapped Under Ice, but instead the Memory Remains. Otherwise, it would be Unforgiven

/Yes, I know most of those songs are post-Burton

Well that's a nice gesture, even if it is 30 years later.

Now to wait for the inevitable "He wasn't that good/He's over rated" and "Should have been Lars" posts.

Just remember what ol' Cliff Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Cliff Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

Saw him play with Metallica at Day on the Green '85. When they played Seek and Destroy and Whiplash, I thought I was going to get trampled. The mass of humanity I was in the middle of was insane. I would jump up or barely touch the ground and I would just be moved 10 ft. in any direction. What a great day, wish I was 14 again.

If anybody was going to keep Lars in check, it could have been Cliff.  Would have actually heard the base in Justice, and the horrible make the mix go to 11 in Death Magnetic wouldn't have happened either.  Jason Newkid was totally screwed by the band, he's a good man and didn't deserve the treatment.  Robert was great in Suicidal, I think he's too funky to be with them and they are limiting him.  But the pay must be awesome so who's going to say no to the band.  They are old enough and got their hazing out on Jason so it's a pretty nice gig.
They (Metallica) is more corporation than band now, but once upon a time, they were amazing.

Nurglitch: Metallica was a great cover band.

Anthrax was better.  That era of Metallica covers (Garage Days re-revisited EP), the Prince, Breadfan were all awesome.
But if you listen to Metallica's cover of Remember Tomorrow and Anthrax's version (with Jon Bush) the Anthrax version is IMHO better than the Maiden original.
And I love Maiden.
Got the Time, Anti-Social, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, they do amazing covers.

Huh? He didn't get screwed. Jason won the lottery. He got the opportunity of a lifetime and made so much money with Metallica that he never has to work again.

I'd say that's a pretty fair trade-off for having to put up with Lars and company's douchiness for a few years.

He's making more money than he ever did with Mike Muir but he's gotta be bored with what James and Lars write for him.

Opeth's version is better than both of those but none of them are better than the original.

Yeah I was officially introduced to Trujillo in their Infectious Grooves days, I wish they did more of that.  The truth is, after Burton, you really don't hear much bass in Metallica songs.  However, Death Magnetic is a pretty badass album musically.  Trujillo gets some good parts in All Nightmare Long and Suicide and Redemption.

I saw Metallica headline at the Day on the Green, either '91 or '92 and they brought down the house.  They were righteous and played almost a 3 hour set.  Those guys always believed in giving the fans their money's worth.  Newstead actually sang on a song but he was totally drowned out.  His wah-wah intro replacing the bells in for Whom the Bell Tolls was pretty cool though.  All in all a crazy-ass experience for my first concert ever, lol.

Good start to the day!
