All in the mistaken belief he'll get Raptured before the first bombs hit.  Nah, he'll be one of the ones roaming what's left for a thousand years before he's cast into the fiery pit.

1. He's not trying to help.
2. At least it's not war, which is all we can hope for with this combination of evangelical lunatics and kleptocratic stooges running the country.

I've come to the conclusion that, if there really is a god (or the various gods of the various tribes of man exist), he/they have given up on humanity as a whole and focus on helping the least retarded ones. Pence said: "We will continue to isolate North Korea until it abandons its nuclear- and ballistic-missile programs once and for all,"

How do you isolate a regime you've already isolated, and who's worked at isolating themselves, for 50+ years?  What do we have any control over that we could cut off that would have any meaningful effect on them?

Yeah, gonna say...in the linked AP article he comes across as almost, well, normal:

"The United States is with you in this challenge," Pence told Abe as they began their talks. "And we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Japan, the people of South Korea, and our allies and partners across the region until we achieve the global objective of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
...
Abe echoed Pence's comments, urging countries "not to be lured by the charm offensive of North Korea." He added that the U.S. and Japan are "100 percent on the same page" on North Korean policy.

Pence is trying to goad them into a war since he knows Little Kim and President Idiot think a lot alike.  If Trump were to get frothing mad about something and actually push for war, Kim probably would too.

2018-02-07 08:22:16 AM
In Trump's eyes, starting a war with North Korea will divert attention from the Mueller investigation and will make him look like a military leader/hero.

We really don't have any control over them. People like to talk tough, but in reality our options are to either keep doing what we're doing, or risk full scale war. NK has correctly guessed that we don't consider them to be worth war, and there's no reason to think that will change.

It has worked, at least insofar as NK hasn't attacked SK again. They don't have the resources to sustain any kind of offensive military operation, which keeps them in check. It doesn't stop them from having nukes, of course, but ultimately it's almost impossible to stop any country from developing nukes if they want them badly enough.

No, he's hurting.  Why?  Because, as of the moment those words came out of his mouth, there were no "tougher sanctions."  Like Trump, Pence has literally NO IDEA what existing sanctions are, let alone how to come up with tougher sanctions.  If Pence had maybe consulted with, oh, I dunno, CONGRESS, or maybe some Cabinet members, maybe he would have some knowledge in the area and know what type of "tougher sanctions" could be imposed.

But this stinks of simple tough talk, something to rile up the base and piss off N. Korea.  The second he got off stage, he probably said "hey, someone get a hold of someone important and have them look up what sanctions we've already got against them."

I have found that really interesting, as well. The only thought I've had is it's a desperate attempt to keep the succession from falling to the Congress. And losing both President and VP to serious charges would muck about with the Congressional money trough.

This right here! Many years ago I worked fairly closely, first name basis, with Pence for about 6 months. I found him to be profoundly stupid, but utterly committed to whatever political bs  he is spewing at the time.  Typical bomb thrower.  Great at revolution, sucks at actually governing.

Seeing these pics again reminds me that Shiathole isn't the only one who has created some of the very most painfully embarrassing moments for our country. It seemed funnier at the time. Now it's just cringe-inducing embarrassing. We have children running the government. Their ideas on governance are the kinds of ideas children would come up with. More ice cream for me. No cheat, no cheat, you're the cheat. My dad's gonna beat up your dad. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Ooh, Little Baby, go cry to mommy, Little Baby, Little Little Baby. Girls are icky. And so on.

NK is the textbook definition of "keep doing the same thing and expecting different results". They don't care if you isolate them. They don't care if you stomp your feet and make angry speeches about them. It feeds their propaganda.

There're only two scenarios I can see being effective in defeating/stopping NK:

1. You go balls out and drone-strike the shiat out of KJU and his generals, take out the military infrastructure, and otherwise treat it like we did the Taliban.

2. You willingly risk covert action to evacuate as many people out of the country as you possibly can, and thin the herd until there's no one left outside the Military for the NK leadership to use to continue their programs and the country fully collapses.

You could maybe combine 1 and 2 and basically hard-advance into the country from as many sides as possible, using conventional warfare to clear your way in and evacuate everyone behind you.

Either way, it'll be a bloodbath, and short of NK actually nuking someone, I doubt either of these approaches would be palatable.

We could also just ignore them, but with fatboy slim over there throwing missiles across our allies and detonating nuclear warheads, I don't think we can afford to do that.

There's actual science behind that.  I forget what they call it, but it goes something like this.  You want someone to choose Choice A, but it's unlikely to be accepted. You present that person with Choice Crazypants, which the person will obviously decline.  Now you present them with Choice A, and it seeming to be more reasonable to Choice Crazypants, the person will be more likely to accept it.

Maybe that's the grand plan.  Give us Trump (Choice Crazypants) for us all to NOPE about, then present us with a seemingly more 'reasonable' alternative in Pence.  Then the GOP can be more likely to do whatever the hell they want and we'll all be like, "well...at least it isn't Trump."

yeah...well, we've figured it out, conservatives.  You can't fool us.  We've got your number *now*...
