Some of those Conan stories will have to be adjusted for modern sensibilities, methinks.  Shadows in Zamboula, for one.

Pretty much. And if you recall, it's not exactly like the original movie franchise held up very well
Considering Amazon's track record with their original series, I expect this to be yet another dud
But who knows, maybe they can go back to the source material and the Frazetta cover art and make something great out of it

Probably.  I hope they do similar to the Dark Horse graphic novels (Cary Nord and such).  They did a good job with that "adjustment" and their embellishment with non-Howard characters and such did justice to the stories.

Portions of the internet lost their minds over how women were portrayed in the recent Conan board game from Monolith. I have to believe a TV show is going to get more attention.

Raktastic: Conan the Destroyer

That sequel was pretty bad. It was a standard D&D module that somebody filmed. I loved Conan the Barbarian itself though. My gaming group would quote it for jokes.
Red Sonja made up for Conan the Destroyer.

I still find the original Conan film to be great.  I wish there were more epic films like it today.  It's a film from another time, a time of high adventure.

It had some issues (especially in how Wun Wun was used), but was entertaining enough. Hardhome, on the other hand, is probably the greatest fantasy battle scene ever filmed.

Speaking of the soundtrack, hands down one if not the best soundtrack in the 80's.

You make a show about war you better get the war parts right. Don't even get me started on how inept the armies are using special units like 20 foot tall giants and flying napalm dispensers. Especially if you just end the big battle with heavy cavalry ex machina. Poor Stannis got chump killed worse than Santa Anna.

I was yelling "Serpentine!!!" at Rickon for the beginning of that episode.  Jon getting buried alive by bodies bit looked interesting but seemed incredibly fake to me and took me out of the episode.  Hardhome was bad-ass.

Wasn't that bit actually based on some actual historical account of a real battle, or something out of a Viking saga, or something along those lines? I remember something about it not being invented wholesale for that scene.

Goddamn, I hope so. As ridiculous as I'll admit the stories, they're wonderfully ridiculous.  Love them. And RE Howard is one of the best writers of fantasy evar.

Hell, he could out-Chtulhu Lovecraft, and the rest of his horror was top-notch.

Fantastic writer.

I'll say it. You have your Conan - the only person who excelled at their job in the 2011 film was the casting person who got Jason Momoa to sign on. He was perfect casting. But no actor was gonna be able to overcome that turd of a script.

It's absolutely criminal the property has lain dormant as long as it has.

Now if they can film it on the same type of 35 mm film to give it that gritty texture the original had and also to match the Frank Frazetta style too. I would hope there would have to be a filter of some sort on HD cameras that can emulate it.
