This was my first thought when I saw the trailer.

It's basically Home Alone, but with critters. And Home Alone probably wouldn't fly in theaters these days.

ArkAngel: This was my first thought when I saw the trailer.

There was a previous commercial aired which made it look like a trippy and fun movie to take our daughter to. It made no reference to Peter being a dick. The latest commercial is horrifying and even the little one says she wants nothing to do with it.

If I recall correctly, Peter Rabbit was indeed kind of an a-hole.

I believe the phrase you are looking for is "thieving chav".

But how can we possibly sell a beloved character to a new generation unless we give him attitude?

I was holding out a faint bit of hope that it would be a Paddingtonsituation where the trailers were atrocious and the movie itself was brilliant. Can't expect lightning to strike twice, though. I would not be one bit surprised if it outgrossed Paddingtonin the US, though, because we can't have nice things.

A dark gritty re-imagining of Peter Rabbit?

The psychosexual games between Domhnall Gleeson and Rose Byrne seemed out of place, too.

See, this is a prequel. Hux joins the Order and begins a quest to destroy the galaxy to get over his humiliation of being tricked by a rabbit. Ever seen any humanoid lagamorphs in the new movies? No, b/c he put them all on one of the planets he destroyed in Force Awakens.

They could have gone a step further, which might be fine.

FTFY.  Took me decades to figure it out, but everybody is an asshole in some way.

the trailer also makes it look like Peter Rabbit wants to f*ck the woman whose garden he's robbing. It's...odd.

He steals food and loses his new coat doing exactly what his mother told him not to do.  Flopsy Mopsy and Cottontail were the do-gooders, subby.  Go watch a movie about them.

/Mister McGregor as a young man is the dumb.

So basically, Squirrel Nutkin?

So is this the General Hux Prequel? Explains many a thing about the character.

/Don't antagonize people, they may end up in the First Order.

Did the movie studios not learn anything from this?ANYTHING?!?!

An 100+ year old story about a naughty children reimagined with a wise ass precocious kid/animal.  I wonder which modern hip-hop song he'll dance to in the movie and how many fart jokes they'll be.

Stop rewriting published works. Not your story. Write a totally new one. Stop ruining my farking childhood, Hollywood.

2018-02-06 01:13:13 PM
This movie looks horrid. Is Hollywood so out of ideas that they need to ruin a century old story? Oh wait, it's Hollywood...they'd reanimate a corpse if they thought they could make a buck.. Oh wait! They've already done that, too.

Want your children to enjoy Beatrix Potter's stories? Read them to your kids. Then if they truly need animation, dig up the wonderful animated versions of Potter's stories called "The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends" from the early 90's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_of_Peter_Rabbit_and_Friends

I got the complete set of books for my little girl and these stories are just boring and hard to read, Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh are far superior as far as the older children's classics go.

DNWTFT, but I'm guessing she's no Jessica.

I was a bit skeptical when I saw Peter being portrayed as a quippy asshole in the trailer, but then the Fall Out Boy kicked in and I was completely on board.

Peter Rabbit's troublemaking from the book, at once animalistic and innocent

WTF is this guy talking about? The animals are 100% anthropomorphized, and Peter wasn't remotely innocent. He was supposed to be identifiable to kids as a stupid, brash brat who doesn't listen to his mother and nearly dies because of it. The author probably has vague memories from some adaption but clearly isn't familiar the original, or with her other works. The theme again and again is zip your lip and stop acting like an asshole or suffer the consequences.

Having just rest Peter Rabbit to my kid let us see.

Is warned by his mother NOT to go to the farm, does anyways
Is warned to NOT lose his new close (after the last time he lost them) - does just that.
Eats from a garden that isn't his and not for reasons of starvation (they apparently get food from other places)
Basically acts like the garden pest that rabbits can be.

Seems selfish and irresponsible to me so ya, a d*ck.

Similar related is the classic Pokey Little Puppy, though the puppy is far more clever and gets away with things right up until the end.

Velvetine Rabbit on the other hand - straight up tear jerker.

Velvetine Rabbit is devestating. I read it to my daughter once and barely got through it.

And when will Disney do a PC reboot of Song of the South so we can witness a true rabbit train wreck.  If they hurry, they might get a sitting president to sing Zip-a-dee-doo-dah.
