today is the greatest day to throw bandmates under the bus

Saw them live once and he acted like such a pretentious assh*le I about walked out.

He seems to act thst way in interviews too.  Shame, that.
The first album and double cd were genuinely good.

Congratulations, Billy.  It takes a lot of effort to be a bigger asshole than the drunk driving lunatic crackhead that D'arcy turned into, but you found a way.

Specifically he talked shiat about fans who had come because they only saw his music videos.

Completely oblivious that that makes him a hypocrite and sellout.

/liked the James Iha-Ha Man, though

Billy Corgan was responsible for all music created in the 1990s, according to Billy Corgan.

2018-02-06 11:07:03 AM
Isn't he just going to record over everyone's parts anyway? Who cares who's in the band.

I saw them as well in the mid nineties and the mid concert break went like this:

"Don't do what those corporations want you to do"

*cheeeeeeer*

"Don't dress like THEY want you to dress"

*yaaaaay, cheeeeeer*

"Be like US and dress like US instead!"

*crickets...tumbleweeds*

"Alrighty then, and now Wonderwall!"

/the last part didn't happen...

Billy's a funny name for a guy getting a pension in what, 14 years?

Wanna go for a ride?

Her background vocals were a big part of Siamese Dream. For me, anyway.

So, she was a bass player?

2018-02-06 11:14:08 AM
The Pumpkins' 90s music was awesome.  It can remain that way as long as you ignore every word that comes out of Billy's mouth.

2018-02-06 11:15:30 AM
Hated him then, hate him now.
Well, maybe 'hate' is too strong of a word.
He's just a total ful(ing dick.

I'm willing to concede that he is responsible for Gish, Siamese Dream and Melancholy so long as he is willing to own up to the fact that everything else he made has been garbage.

Not Garbage. Hole. He made all of Hole's music.

He's turned into a Republican asshole, to boot. Nobody cares, Billy.

You become a bass player in high school after a band meeting where you're demoted from rhythm guitar.

I played bass in orchestra for five years before picking up a bass guitar. Your band sucks without a solid rhythm section.

Seriously.  The way the drummer and the bass player work together is one of the defining features of how good a band sounds.

The first album, "Gish" blew my mind. When Siamese Dream came out I was the first kid at Ye Olde Record Store. Also blew my mind. Mellon Collie was also good but by then my interests we're expanding. My point is that they're one of my favorite bands from youth...but then he decided to become the Billy Corgan we now all know and love. Sigh. I know that artists shouldn't be expected to release similar sounding stuff all their lives, nor do i usually care about an artists politics or personal life...but this guy is an asshole.

/Chamberlain was the best drummer of the 90s and I'll cut the first Farker who ignorantly claims otherwise

I saw them with Garbage in 96 on the infinite sadness tour.
Garbage blew them off the stage.

Saw them the first time during the Melancholy tour. I wasn't a fan when I got there, I was when I left. I've been to many concerts and it remains one of the top concerts I have ever seen. One year latter I saw them again and it wasn't so great, Billy was a little temperamental.

Billy Corgan can not sing live. I caught them at Lollapalooza and he sounded like he was hoarse.  Nope, he always sounds like that live.

Yep to all of the above.  Saw them at Lollapalooza 94 in St. Louis.  Billy insulted the audience, St. Louis, and the Midwest in general.  Worst act of the day despite great albums/songs.  Inspired Douche may be my Smashing Pumpkins cover band.

Yeah, cheating on your bandmate\wife and mother of your child is a dick move, but going so far as to writing songs about the other woman, putting them on the albums and having your wife play on them unaware and thinking they were about her? That's a special kind of farked up

Sgt Otter: Congratulations, Billy.  It takes a lot of effort to be a bigger asshole than the drunk driving lunatic crackhead that D'arcy turned into, but you found a way.

THIS, and let's face it, without D'Arcy and her competent basslines, Gish and Siamese Dream would sound like shiat.

Imagine Rhinoceros without the bassline walking the song with Iha's guitar, or how Cherub Rock would sound without that bouncy bass setting it up before Corgan's immense loud strat octaves takes the song into rock legend? I'm sorry, but Billy Corgan was an immensely better musician when he hadn't developed his swelled bald ego and actually played off his bandmates.

Butch Vig deserves much of the credit for Siamese Dream. If he wasn't producing it, then it would have lacked all its magic.
