Why not just move the game to Saturday to allow all the besotted fans a chance to sleep their hangovers off??

Houston did the same when the 'Stros won their first championship. It's better than half of them calling in sick and the district panicking to find subs.

Heh my wife and I were just talking about the desert island game ("bring 3 books/movies/video games") and I picked Fallout: New Vegas as one (all DLC included of course).

Who doesn't love a parade?

Pattison Avenue to the Art Museum.  Any kid that walks that should get gym class off for the whole spring.

Been there.

I used up quite a few sick days back in the day because I was still drunk at 6:00 a.m.

"Welp, better call the Subfinder."

The closing is Thursday. Teaching drunk will be no problem. It's when you start to sober up that's the problem. Staying drunk until Wed. seems about right.

Congrats Philly!  Thanks for adding "f*cktomb" to my vocabulary.

I bet the kids who depend on free lunch for their nutrition will be excited.

Sunday night and Monday morning were a traffic accident nightmare around here after the game.  It rained a lot on Sunday and froze solid during the game.  People were a little tipsy or drunk and getting in their cars.  I monitor Montgomery County Dispatch and can never remember the active list
of traffic accidents being so big.

Are we sure it's not because the kids will be too drunk to learn?

That's pretty cool. As a fan of Boston sports we've been very fortunate of late but there were very dark days. And there will be dark days to come as well.

Good for Philly and what a good feeling it is if you're a sports or football fan. Enjoy your parade, Philly fans.

"He's hung over."
"That means he's drunk!"
"No, it means I was drunk *yesterday*"

Because the people who are in charge of putting these things together and organizing and montioring and policing all work M-F at a normal rate. Move it Sat and it's time and half and since Philly is so unionized, it's likely out of the question financially.

Closing the schools make sense because a lot of the inner city kids require public transportation to get to school and they can't use it because it's going to be crowded.

Now, the teachers in the burbs complaining about having school need to suck it up. Not everyone can attend a parade. Even if you think it's "historic."

When I was a kid, all the students got a free lunch. We didn't have money to buy anything, our parents paid.

He was talking about the Super Bowl not the parade, silly.

Well these days there are a lot of kids whose parents can't pay, and who don't get enough food at home, and are completely dependent on the nutrition from school meals. So whenever schools close for frivolous reasons, especially in large cities, just remember, there are kids who didn't eat since lunch the day before who aren't going to eat until lunch the day after.

So true. This summer my husband and I will be working with a local co-op that provides meals for kids who don't have stable, nutrient-rich foods while they're out of school.

It's pretty neat because the kids get to help grow the veggies and fruits they'll be eating.

It's not world changing but it helps.

I'm headed down to the parade on Thursday.... I'll try and post some pictures to Fark if someone starts a thread.

Should be fun!

I'll be there too. I'm a white guy in a Westbrook jersey. I shouldn't be hard to spot.

Well that's just dumb. You know how to keep kids and teachers safe during the parade?  Keep them in school where they belong on a Thursday. Someone wants to ditch class to go to the parade?  OK, unexcused absence, hope they still graduate.
