I pay doctors to listen to me talk every week. I'm not going to read paragraphs for free.

What's the point. Everything is meaningless in the end.

I'd never understand it anyway.

I don't see any point. My miserable life is completely meaningless in the end.

You should join me and commit to commiting suicide as soon as possible.

Of course, the only acceptable way to commit suicide is by snorting enough coke out of a stripper to kill six horses after impregnating identical ginger triplets on a bed made of hundies.

I'm down. So, meet in Shibuya at 10 this Friday? If you've got a connection for some Columbian Marching Powder, I can empty my bank account and get some ichiman yen notes. There are plenty of massage girls in my town, I'm sure one of them is down for getting rails snorted off her naked breasticles.

I'm at a loss on the ginger triplets though. Guess we'll have to call it off.

Read that as, "bed made of Hyundais".

Thought 1万円札 would work, hence my clearing out the bank account. It's all about the Fukuzawas.

WTF are you talking about? It's not like you care.

Depressed people tell themselves a bunch of negative junk that turns into self-fulfilling prophecy because the mind believes exactly what you tell it about yourself and the world, whatever that may happen to be.

This was figured out long before science and research were a thing, though.

You're right, I don't care. In fact, no one actually cares at all. You're like an emotional vampire that sucks the life and energy out of everyone around you.

Oh!  My bad.  Figured you were telling me off for being callous or something.

Well, I'm not.  I don't think I am, anyway, 'cause I was there.

After I worked a series of shiatty jobs out of college because I had to earn a living, I became depressed, thinking I was stuck in this utter misery forever and it was never going to get better, ever.  I stayed that way for years, until I really started paying attention to what I was thinking and saying; and I realized how much of what went through my head every day was utter bullshiat:  I'm useless.  Helpless.  I'm going to be like this forever.  What's the point?  Nothing will ever get better.  Why even try?

And I realized that I was believing that bullshiat, and by believing it I was acting on it.

It was very nearly as instantaneous as being struck by lightning.  I took back control and haven't been depressed since.  I'm not on an SSRI anymore, and I'm slowly tapering off my last medication, which is a huge thing for me.

I mean, there are mental conditions people need medication for, absolutely, no doubt, and I'd never tell anyone to just up and quit them; but in some cases, maybe a lot of them, there's a time you need that stuff, and a time when you don't anymore.

I don't go so far as to say I'm cured.  More like remission, maybe?  I've got no illusions that it couldn't all come roaring back if I let it.  I have to be vigilant every day about discarding the cognitive bullshiat:  No.  Stop.  That's stupid and a lie.  No more wallowing.  But the reward for that vigilance is feeling alive again, and I try to encourage others to do the same for themselves.

I remember someone on Fark once told me during the worst of it that things would get better...I didn't believe it at the time, but hope now I'm passing it along in some way.
