I like it but couldn't tell you the last time I had it.

I have a friend who has a thing for going to Huddle Houses.  Haven't seen him in years but the count was over 50 when I last saw him.

It may sound like a weird hobby but it's more about the trip than restaurant.  My ex and I did something similar with state capitols.

Don't have the pic handy, but I was in one wandering around the discontinued crap section, and saw an American Pride paperweight festooned with flags and eagles.

Flipped it over and yup, sure as shiat, it was Made in China.

Pretty much sums up their average customer's mentality.

I do like their 'scuits and sausage gravy now and then. Perfect booze soaked upper.

The only time in my life I ever eat there is when I'm on a long road trip.  If it's a long road trip it's basically mandatory that we stop at one for breakfast at least once.  It's... okay.  I can think of worse places to eat.  Plus them triangle puzzles they got what say I'm a certified genius are pretty spot on.

cracker barrels often have very large parking lots with easy traffic flow and near the highway exits. people who travel in motorhomes often stay overnight in their parking lots because cracker barrel is very tolerate.  i bet this couple was doing this for years. i met a couple with 750,000 miles on their 4 year old pickup truck towing a 5th wheel travel trailer. they'd drive during the day on the major highways and sleep at night at truck stops, walmart, bass pro shops [they have dump stations and water that are often free] and highway rest areas etc... unfortunately many states are not allowing overnight staying at rest area any longer.

We share a similar view. I do have a few Cracker Barrel hacks. That may or not be useful.

1. Apple butter: They don't usually mention it on the menu, but they will bring you as much as you like. It's not as good as Apple Barn, but it's pretty good and it's free.
2. When they ask if you want biscuits or cornbread, just say, 'Yes'. You can also have a blueberry muffin instead. They don't mind and as long as you're not eating a half dozen I have never been refused.
3. When they originally opened the menu offered a 6 piece 'side item' meal at a set price much cheaper than ordering 6 individual sides. These days the menu only offers a 4 'side item; meal. BUT the server's register still has the old PLU and can still can ring up the original 6 item meal at a noticeable discount. Great way to get a couple items for take-home or to share at the table.
4. Little individual bottles of syrup. Free, but only available on request.
5. They also used to have a 'Grandma's Breakfast' no longer on the menu but available upon request, it's basically an Old Timer's breakfast' with pancakes for a price less than a separate side stack of flapjacks.

Best value generally is their daily lunch specials. I leave it to each and every one of you to eat where you like. I'm passing these tips on to the FARK community because I enjoy trying to bring a smile or lend a helpful hand as well as keeping up with the news.

Cracker Barrel is one of those 'right there in the title' places. Eat there as a non-white person and you're sure to get a little 'extra' with your meal.

The Venn Diagram that shows "people who enjoy eating at Cracker Barrel" and "people who support Donald Trump as president" features an almost 100 percent overlap. It would be 100 percent, but the ones who don't overlap didn't understand how to answer the question and said something like "rutabaga" or "tabby cat" instead.

I was sad to see the little bottles of syrup went from 100% maple syrup to 50% high fructose corn syrup

Then I realized that's actually the most hipster thing ever.

We had a work trip some years ago and one of the closest spots we found to eat was a Cracker Barrel. I found I could get an egg on toast sammich and tea for under 3$ It was very tasty and pretty good sized. People must have caught on, last time I went it was higher.

I did like the old-fashioned candies they had. There was some fun stuff. They sold/sell some coated gummy bears called Unbearably hot Cinnamon Bears. They were pretty spicy. Fun to put in the jar at the office :D

In a thread for making g fun of Cracker Barrel, you probably shouldn't bring up something g you can find in nearly any retail outlet. China has been producing our jingoism for decades.

Stopped for breakfast once at a location in Tennessee on my way home to California. I thought the food was okay, but the "no smoking section" was only about 1/4 of the restaurant and there was no effort to isolate the space. The miasma of tobacco smoke gave the pancakes and interesting flavor.

I genuinely have never heard of a "cracker barrel."  In my defense, i have referred to places as such, oblivious that is a proper thing.  Well, that just ruins that :(

People make it sound like a buffet rather than a huckster store as in the pics supplied

But I have to say it was much better than Waffle House, which I ate at a couple times in the same trip.

Cracker Barrel has saved our asses on various road trips when we were in need of a good breakfast. For that I am thankful.

It's not fine cuisine, but it most definitely gets the job done.

As a grill cook for them, I recommend only the Haddock, ribeye steak, burgers, and the hand-breaded fried chicken on Sundays. Everything else is shiat, or you can get for cheaper elsewhere.
