Annnd time to someone using it to screw with people and try to make them panic brake for no good reason, or hold them up similarly would be about 7 seconds.  Time to the first accident, neighborhood altercation, or death due to someone using it to be a shiathead = approximately 45 seconds.

Some Junkie Cosmonaut: using it to screw with people and try to make them panic brake for no good reason

Using a remote controls the lights.  So by extension, vehicles hitting the induction coils at the junction will also cause panic and mayhem when they trigger the next sequence?

Heck of an extension there... more that someone will realize they can repeatedly hit the remote to make the light flip, even when they have no need to do so.  If there's a way to be a dick with something, humans will find it fast.

It's the same as a pedestrian hitting the crosswalk button to trigger the lights. Numbskulls do this all the time, but i don't see that leading to accidents.

Those buttons aren't connected to anything. They're there to trick pedestrians into being patient.

yeah, in a city where the lights will follow their timing regardless of flow.

but often a pedestrian access button on the lights in my town (same as TFA actually) will control the lights in some suburbs, especially if the lights are dedicated pedestrian crosswalks.

Yeah, I'd sit there hitting the remote all day just to be a pain.

It's Australia. The lights are venomous.

We don't even have traffic lights for the elementary school.

"I've never seen anything like this in my career. It's definitely very unique."

As opposed to generically unique.

Slightly one-of-a-kind.

There's a few around Brisbane but they usually have a cross walk button in the front yard.  I wasn't aware of the remote option.

It'll be fun when every house on that street has them.
