Yea, this was one of the few times where the game far exceeded the commercials. I was wanting the commercials to end so they could get back to playing.

It also far exceeded the half time show, but not the "celebrations" to follow.

The game itself was one of the best ever. So, the headline is bullshiat.

But....

Best: Tide ads. Also the Jeep Wrangler no-bullshiat ad. And the Dinklage/Freeman lip-sync challenge
Worst:
• The Dodge MLK spot (WTF were they thinking???)
• The Hyundai spot with the survivors (sanctimonious, self-serving and just creepy)
• The Kia spot with the old lady who sort of looks like Stephen Tyler

I really liked the "Dirty Dancing" Giants ad as well.

Considering you're going to get an endless farking loop of these things when you try to watch the NBA, NHL, MLB, World Cup, Wimbledon, Olympics, etc, then no, I'm not all that broken up about "missing" them. You're going to farking see them eventually, even if you don't watch the actual game until the fourth quarter b/c that's the only part that matters.

/also, farking NFL needs to fix the farking rules, that was the easiest "yes it was a catch" call and it took them for farking ever to review it
//are we going to start appealing to the Supreme Court now? That might take less time

The Manning/OBJ "Dirty Dancing" commercial was the best one, hands down.  Doritos/Mtn Dew were a distant 2nd...all the others sucked.

I liked the Doritos/Dew ad.

The moment at the end, which Dinklage reignites the flame on his shoulder is was really did it for me.

The rest of the NFL watched a different Patrick Swayze, knew when it was time "Not to be Nice" and went full Road House on the Giants this past season.

The Dirty Dancing football ad was my favorite, hands down. And I actually laughed at the dumb Febreze "bleepdontstink" ad, but in my defense I was pretty stoned.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I thought the Tide Ads spot was brilliant.  It got you watching every commercial and thinking about Tide.  Considering it is basically impossible to make an entertaining detergent commercial, it was an incredibly creative way to get far more than their actual ad-buy worth of attention.

According to the person who uploaded it on YouTube, it's from a different part of the same speech that the original voiceover came from.

The blinders that people put on themselves are the most effective ones. If advertising executives can be called "people" that is.

OK, so I missed the game and the commercials yesterday. That's OK, though, because the score ended the way I wanted, and there are always threads like this where I can find the commercials...

So let's see...
Best: Alexa, What was the most fun ad of the night?
Yep, that was some funny shiat "Alexa, set the mood...". I like that one.

Worst: Hyundai's head scratcher
Meh, not exciting, but not some kind of "head scratcher" ad. it was a feel good spot with a decent message.

Best: Toyota actually brings people together
This one was pretty good, as well. Not sure why Rolling Stone doesn't understand why people go to football games, though.

WTF: Tide's huge big game push
I kinda got a kick out of this one, too. Not the greatest, but fun to watch once.

Doritos/Mountain Dew
Fun, but not as much of an orgasm as some people seem to be experiencing.

Febreeze and The Voice:
Yeah, these sucked.

Diet Coke Twisted Mango:
I have no idea who Hayley Magnus is, exactly, but I couldn't focus on the commercial because that girl has freakishly long, freakishly skinny legs, or there was some kind of SNAFU with changing the screen perspective ratio.
img.fark.netView Full Size

WTF: A voyage down under with Hemsworth and McBride
OK, I liked this one a lot, too. That shiat was funny. And wow, old man Paul Hogan has some big guns even now...

Best: Nobody puts the NFL in a corner
OK, this one wasn't bad. I'm already tired of these ridiculously choreographed NFL celebrations, and this summed that up perfectly. It would have been a lot easier to enjoy without this pop up ad bullshiat taking up a third of the farking screen, though.

That's one of those "ads for everyone"   As they broke into the Dirty Dancing part of the ad My first thought was "who is gonna lift whom"?  But my wife immediately said "well Eli is doing Jennifer Grey's part, soo" because she loves that freaking movie.   Having Eli do the lift was technically wrong but...what are you gonna do?

2018-02-05 12:53:16 PM
Cure Auto Insurance was pretty funny. probably a regional ad as the first one said something about Hey New Yorkers a Super bowl between Philly and NE SUCKS

Or if you cheat on car insurance you go to jail but if you cheat at football you get to sleep with a super model.

2018-02-05 12:57:26 PM
David Harbour, Dinklage/Freeman and Goldblum daydreaming about chasing a T.Rex were all pretty great. Steven Tyler reversing his age, the buildup and eventual Dirty Dancing payoff with Eli manning, and the Honda guy staring blankly at me for 30 seconds all had me thinking my food had been dosed with something.

There were two "setup" ads for the Dirty Dancing ad, but on my TV both of those ads were cut off - both at the beginning and at the end.  Fortunately, the main spot worked fine without buildup, but it was noticeable.

I figured it had to be regional too, as everyone who was in the room with me were cheering and high five-ing each other as if we'd just scored the winning touchdown. For fun, look up their 2015 "banned" ad. Might not get me to buy their insurance, but it did at least get me to price them out.

I guess I was the only one who found Eli and Odell looking a bit too much in love with each other to be rather creepy. Then again I thought Danny DeVito smearing himself in chocolate was creepy too and seeing Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman lip sync to hip hop told me "old man, you are not who they are trying to sell product to".

Didn't get all the Tide commercials either, as I have no idea who the guy in the commercials was, and I suspect I was supposed to. I was hoping to see something along the lines of "Tide Pods. They're not just for breakfast anymore".

The Jeep ad was ok until you stop to think about it for more than 5 seconds and realize the no speeches part was paid for by the exact same company that literally had an MLK speech as the soundtrack to an earlier ad.

I don't know who the dude in the Tide ads was either - but you don't need to to grok the premise of the ad series, or be sports-entertained by it.

Really liked the dorito/mt dew ice commercial, but then I got to thinking about it.  Dinklage being fire makes sense, but then it makes the other half appear to say Morgan Freeman is so close to death, he looks like a frozen zombie.  I'm not entirely sure they weren't going for that, with the upcoming GoT season.

Hated the Dodge commercial.  The Jeep spot was classy, wouldn't have cared about the KIA spot if Stephen Tyler wasn't in it.  Still won't buy a KIA.

This.   I think the ad could have been received better if (A) it was much more multi-cultural than it ended up being and (B) Take out 99% of the "Dodge" truck and other references in the ad.  It should have been extremely NOT referencing Dodge, and at the end, a very small quick frame saying "The Preceding brought to you by Dodge".   Then, Dodge is saying they paid for the time, but, not trying to overly try to make it an "ad" for them during the spot.
