"Mushrooms" is such a broad category.

Some produce cancer causing compunds too.

It's still exciting to see the floor melt and my galatic consciousness expand though.

Mushrooms can also flip the monkey coaster strangely inversed balancing blue marbles spinning traction besides unlocked raspberry swirl Montgomery burns the bush into garbled bodies. Now can your cigarettes do that?

Actually Subby, the gyromitra family of mushrooms contain gyromitrin, a poison that breaks down into monomethylhydrazine (MMH). MMH is used as a rocket propellant since it is a hypergolic when combined with nitric acid.

Thanks! I save images all the time. When I started to realize there were quite a few Dune ones out there I started looking for more. I'm sure I've got a long way to go still!

Thanks for the TF!

Frank Herbert wrote "The Santaroga Barrier" shortly after publishing "Dune", but before it became famous.
"Santaroga Barrier" features "the Jaspers", which corresponds (to a lesser degree) with Spice in "Dune".
The Jaspers, a "fungus" creating a hive-mind among Santaroga residents, get infused into the beer, cheese, and canned food they store in a cave where weird mushrooms grow.

Short book, finish-able in an afternoon.

"Santaroga" is based on, and located in the same place as, Santa Rosa, were Frank Herbert worked as a photojournalist from 1949-53 for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
He got his first sci-fi short story "Looking for Something?" published while living there, and based his book "The Heaven Makers" on a murder trial from around that same time.
