Retire from sports if you're questioning if you're still willing to play. It's not worth the risk if you're questioning.

I certainly would enjoy two more seasons of watching Brady not win the Super Bowl.

2018-02-05 09:54:38 AM
I am a dolphins fan, yes some admit it, and I hate Tom Brady. But my god, over 500 yards passing, 3 TDs and 0 interceptions in a Super Bowl is God tier. If I told you guys that was his ending stat line, you would have said "well Lombardi is back in NE" but here we are.

I need Brady and Bellichek to retire so the dolphins can finish 2nd in AFC East.

Huh?  So if you're questioning it, it's not worth the risk, but if you aren't questioning it, it is worth the risk?

I love watching Gronk he seems to genuinely enjoy himself and seems like a good guy over all, but he should retire before he gets hurt to the point of not being able to retire. I doubt he will see his 50th birthday if he gets any more concussions.

I'm not sure anyone can definitely prove he's ever had a concussion.

Also a Dolphins fan, and I agree with everything you said. TB is the GOAT without question. Even if he retired this week, the Dolphins have their own problems. Tannyhill is not the guy who's going to lead that team to the promised land.

Gronk is only 29?  I thought he'd been around longer than that.  Still, as banged up as he was last night, retirement sounds like a good plan for him.  He can make money doing cameos in action comedies and TV spots for quite a while, he has that kind of personality that plays well on screen.

Third Dolphins fan here.  I don't know that I'd give TB the GOAT over Rodgers or even Brees.  Tannehill's good but not great.  I wish we could get another Marino for the 'fins, but I don't think that's where Gase is looking right now.  They need a less porous O-line.

Brady needs to seriously consider hanging it up while he's still on top.  Look at Favre and Peyton Manning - two of the greatest QBs of all time whose reputations were tarnished for trying to stay in the game after their bodies had begun to give up.

Yes, let's just talk about QBs in the past 10-20 years.

Won't be next year - there's no way in hell New England would have let Jimmy Garoppolo out of Gillette unless they were sure Brady's on for at least one more season.

At this point I'd say the odds are much better that Tom has a career ending injury rather than retire peacefully.

As for Gronk - his job involves getting hit more and harder (kind of like a Browns Quarterback), so I can see him hanging it up before he can count to potato.

/Who does New England even have at backup QB?

So I guess we're once again left wondering:  will Tom Brady choose the Jerry Seinfeld route, or the Mike Schmidt route?

Seinfeld: go out on top, despite the closing episode being a bit of a disappointment, and then people just remember how titanic the body of work was regardless.

Schmidt: be a total franchise machine for years, a real icon for the fans, and then sorta peter out into an also-ran before agreeing to retire.  Except that no one was trying on every play to smash Mike Schmidt's body into the turf.

Brees is so much more entertaining to watch, especially when he's in the zone.

But because everyone thinks a QB plays every position on offense, defense and special teams, that single ring is gonna keep Brees out of any top five discussion, much less the GOAT discussion.

Bres is not even close to a GOAT discussion.  Rodgers, maybe, but he's less than Brent Farve.  Bart Starr? Fran Tark? Montana?  Marino?  It's a rediculos argument on it's face.

Peyton Manning... The QB who ended his career hoisting the Lombardi trophy? There's a lot to criticize about the man, but it's hard to say that he stuck around until he was ineffective.

He shouldn't be in the discussion. I like Brees, he's a hall of famer, but he's not in the discussion at all.

Brady dominated his era, Peyton statistically dominated his era.. similar to Montana / Marino of the 80's. Then you have Elway and Favre.

Then you can talk about some of the old guys, but it's really impossible to compare.

Brees was only an All-Pro once and never won MVP. How can you even consider him in the conversation?

He was pretty sad in the last season, especially at the end, but I don't think he tarnished anything. It was one down year and he left.

2018-02-05 10:44:48 AM
Meh, he just lost and he's feeling bad.  If Bill Belichick, Supergenius Coach, played Malcolm Butler instead of benching him for some undisclosed "football" reason, you'd be fresh off an SB victory talking about how you can't wait to get in the film room.

Foles is under contract with the Eagles next year.

So they may trade him, but doubtful because Carson won't be ready until right around week 1.

He may asked to be traded, but I doubt it.

If I was Eagles management, I'd seriously just ask him what he wants to do and let him do it - I don't care if it means foregoing getting a 2nd rounder for him.

I have a problem with the whole "Montana never lost a super bowl" argument.  He also never got to 8 so I guess we'll never know if he would have dropped some of those.

That is literally all the Montana honks have left to throw into the conversation now because Brady has beaten every statistical accomplishment joe ever had.

By that rationale, Bill Cartwright is better than Kareem, 3-0 in the finals

Asks or not - his value on the trade market right now would be stellar - next year?  Maybe good, maybe bad, but they can get more from him now if they're thinking trade.

Are you arguing with ME, or the guy who actually put Brees in the GOAT discussion???

2018-02-05 11:01:46 AM
Drew Brees has the highest completion % of anyone which is why he gets included in GOAT conversations.  His touch is incredible even going back to Purdue where he shredded the conference throwing the ball to nobodies.  I don't know if you can teach that kind of accuracy.  Calling him the GOAT is problematic because his team didn't win enough which is too bad.  Great, great player though.

The thing Brees will always have going for him is that he saved the franchise.  If the Dolphins take him instead of Culpepper (an infamously bad decision), the Saints leave New Orleans.

Well, they still get to play in the AFC Least, so they'll make the playoffs with at least one home game for the foreseeable future.
