If they used auto tune on the studio recording, it really does not much else.

Live performances usually don't end songs with a fade out.

If the singer's name rhymes with Spitney Beers.

Might as well be Pip farting on a snare drum.

Just check in with Fark. Any singer who's not Geddy Lee or some Norwiegan growling like Cookie Monster with Crohn's disease is either lip-syncing or ZOMG! Autotune!

If you are standing in the middle of a marching band, and your mic doesn't pickup the trumpet 3 foot away you might be lip syncing.

Usually it's a simple matter of hearing that the song sounds exactly like the farking recording, with absolutely no variation anywhere, no echoes in the venue. See Spears, Britney. She does it 100% of the time.

I love when artists clearly don't give a shiat that they are being asked to lip sync.  The clip with Queen was great.  If a band is real and talented, they will prefer to play live but some shows they are on while promoting just can't handle the set up technically, so lip syncing is called for.

Watch The Who do "My Generation" on the Smothers Brothers Show, especially Keith Moon's ludicrous drum-syncing job.  Outstanding.

P!nk said she intentionally farked part of her Grammy performance a couple of years ago (with the flying in air, dunked in a pool act), cause she sounded "to good" and didn't want anyone to think she was lip-syncing.

I think Timberlake's mic was live part of the time, but everything else was prerecorded. The marching band was not playing at all. Just mimicking. Same with his band. What really bugs me is all the crowd around the stage were either paid or fans who were told what to do. Show biz ain't music.

Everything about the halftime show was contrived.  I have seen videos
From the stands during the show and everyone was just super quiet. It's a made-for-TV spectacle and nothing more.

Hint: their lips are moving.

I'd say 100% of "live" TV events except SNL are using a vocal track.

Wait, wait, wait.. I actually saw Pink's flying-through-the-air performance on tv. You mean to tell me that someone can sing perfectly (or as perfect as their voice/talent allows) while being slung around from the rafters like a puppet, spinning and doing somersaults?

I find this hard to believe. Otherwise, "Now THAT'S talent!".
/seemed sorta' silly to me
//you want to hear music, go listen to musicians
///you want to see a circus act, go to a circus

Perry Ferrell sang Ted Just Admit It while holding on to a spinning carousel with one arm.

Not impossible but for the Superb Owl, assume it's synced.  they like to avoid technical difficulty if possible.

Based on the kerfuffle with RHCP a few years ago, that's exactly how they do it now.  The lead singer mic is live, everything else is pantomime.
