What the hell would I do with a Dodge van? I got kids and they love the convertible.

Looked a decent enough ad to me.  Stirring words and nice pictures. Just happened to be a car in some of the pictures. Guessing if you are local, will mean so much more.

oh, just watched the anti-advertising speech version, and withdraw my comment above.  He wasn't keen on the advertising industry, unless that's somehow a fake.

I would think that the Venn diagram of "people inspired by MLK" and "people who would want to own a new Dodge truck" wouldn't have a ton of overlap.

I saw exactly one commercial during the game. ODB and Eli were doing a Dirty Dancing reenactment. I asked my friend next to me "WTF was that a commercial for?", After a brief pause, he admitted that he didn't have the slightest idea either.

/ whatever they're paying for a 30-sec spot these days, you'd think you might want the viewer to have some idea what you're advertising

"Built To Serve"

What an offensive phrase to accompany Martin Luther King Jr's speech.

Lots of people who drive Dodge trucks (including the one I saw flying a confederate flag during rush hour here in SE Michigan last Summer) believe certain people were "Built To Serve" and are pissed that they lost a war fought to continue making them serve.

The one that pissed me off was the Hyundai one with the cancer kids where they pulled people out of line.

Essentially: look at these poor sick kids. You want to help them, right? We at Hyundai want to help too, but we'll only do it if you buy one of our cars.

Fark off with that shiat, Hyundai.

The same King estate that has everything locked down so as to preserve the sanctity of his words.

The King kids would dig up the body and put it on display if they could make a few bucks off of it.  Lots of outrage pointed in the wrong direction.  This was all approved by the King Estate.

The Shameless profiting from the MLK memorial.

The T-Mobile ad was pretty farking bad too. Just a blatant, cynical, vacuous pile of steaming platitude. "Oh look, because we showed diverse babies that's a good reason for you to like us."

The sad but funny thing is that the King family is well-known for being very protective of licensing MLK's likeness.

I agree that much of Michigan is a racist shiathole, but if you have any familiarity with King's written works and speeches, you know that "Built to Serve" actually describes the man very well.

WTF: The Trump base doesn't watch the NFL anymore because the players disrespect the national anthem and the military.

The Weathertec commercial needed some familiarity to make sense. They make floor mats for vehicles. Their two main selling points are that the floor mats are laser measured and that the floor mats are made in America. The modern Amish barn raising of the factory wasn't really that clear.

It definitely had "wall" overtones when I was watching, though I don't think it was intentional.  It was the raising of their factory, which is located here in the US.

My nomination for worst commercial was the one where some (possibly famous) idiot was surfing on a motorcycle down a deserted highway.   Not sure what they were advertising, but you know that some dimbulb kids are going to be inspired by that commercial and get themselves killed.

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention last night, but there seemed to be a record number of commercials where I couldn't figure out what they were advertising or even what the point was.    Like the Monster ad where some kid goes home and designs headphones instead of, I dunno, buying Monster headphones?

I thought the add was funny. As far as I know it was an ad for the NFL, which would be stupid because I was already watching the NFL and they have no product til September.

No, someone in a marketing firm had the original bad idea, and everyone in their group and Dodge though it was a good idea before they got approval from the Kings.  They did a poor job of legacy protection on this one but the stupidity didn't originated from the Kings.
