I'm in. Who wants to watch Tom Brady fellate himself anyway?

IDGAF about the super bowl, but I'll be watching this tonight, for sure.

I thought the shaky cam of the first was headache inducing, but I liked the second one. Solid psychological horror that went sci-if.

I thought the preview for Amazon's new Jack Ryan series looked more interesting, but I'm not into horror movies.

IgG4: Is this only available tonight?

It's up for good.  Just a surprise drop.  I'm looking forward to watching it tomorrow.  Supposedly, it's a lynchpin movie that will tie together the other anthology-style movies.

Haven't seen the 2nd one but I'll watch this one soon. Hopefully I won't be too lost.

This and Altered Carbon should help stave off my TV withdrawals during the Olympics.

What a steaming piece of shiat that was.
Couldnt make it past the part they FAIL at 4th grade science by totally not understanding dimensions and how they work and I'm actually a bit mad I spent any time at all watching that since I'm now too tired to watch the season finale of Black Mirror as I had planned for this evening

I want to know how to remove shiat like this from "continue watching", only made it half way through and never want to return to it again

Netflix needs to roll some heads and clean house. I'm tired of wasting time with the worthless crap they've been churning out. FFS - their "original series" department is a running joke throughout the industry and has been lampooned on several shows

I see we've got an early gambit on "Worst thing evar!!!11"

Any other opinions?

I fell asleep during the first one.  Do I need to see the rest to enjoy it?

We did this already.

It was fun.  Kind of an old school 80s sci fi movie.  Think Leviathan or a tamer Event Horizon.

Dimensions like how a chest of drawers is 24 inches deep by 48 inches tall by 36 inches wide or dimensions like other worlds?

For those wondering, the second film is pretty good and has nothing to do with the first other than the title. Just don't read anything about it ahead of time.

It's not readily apparent with the first two, but it's pretty clear now how things are starting to tie together.

And yes, you can ignore the usual off-kilter, incomprehensibly ranting suspect above. It is like a more fun, not completely serious Event Horizon. It has some unexplained and probably unexplainable elements but nothing that really ruins the experience. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

The first movie was wonderful. The second movie was good but disappointing because it had nothing to do with the first. This third one was ok. Didn't make much sense but still ok but VERY disappointed that it had nothing to do with the first or second except for about 30 seconds. If they do a forth movie I'll be curious to see if they actually tie everything together. I doubt it.

I can see where one and two directly tie in together...

I enjoyed it.

It was a bit silly, just like the first one was.

Remember how, in the first movie, the one skyscraper was leaning, intact, onto another one, and they had to go up into it? This whole movie is a bit like that.

So what? It was fun anyway.

And the last scene was everything.

Oh ffs. It's a basic principal called suspension of disbelief. And they seemed to lack any understanding of it

And it wasn't that one thing, I just couldn't talk about the other things that pissed me off about it without putting in spoilers. But since they all seemed to occur around the time where they totally farking flub dimensions I left it at that

But I should note that flubbing dimensionsis a major thing, seriously profound and maybe it speaks to the overall lack of education and scientific illiteracy of the US

This is because even if there's thousands of dimensions, they are already all here around us. It's only our perception that keeps them hidden, like noises beyond out range of hearing  or light beyond the visible spectrum. Saying "we'be entered a new dimension" is complete and utter farking rubbish and anyone with any education should find that profoundly absurd. They should have cut to cartoon and walked the farking dinosaur at that point

Honestly, what pisses me off the most is that this was clearly playing off of Lovecraft. Sort of a Cthulhu meets StarTrek thing and they totally blew it. But like I said, to go into detail would entail spoilers and just because I couldn't stand this turd sandwich, I won't spoil it for others. But do look for elements of reanimator and at the mountains of madness

"Entering new dimensions" or alternate realities is a science fiction staple, like time travel or faster-than-light space travel. Mistaking a lightyear as a unit of time is scientifically illiterate; this is just a genre convention. and FTR, I've enjoyed all 3 Cloverfield movies.

The clover field part felt shoehorned in really. I might have brought it if the guy on earth's story actually included more references to it.

But still, interesting enough sci-fi/horror.

Enh. I liked it. Sure, they handwaved a lot of "WTF" moments (the eye, the arm, the worms, the magnetism, etc) as simply "We tore space/time and smashed the multiverse!" but it was a neat (and free, if you already had Netflix, of course) way to tie the Cloverfield anthology "universe" together.
Now, I may be completely wrong...but I am assuming the "main" universe in this one (with the husband) was the same as the first Cloverfield movie..and instead of just the one monster we saw in the original movie, the Earth has been overrun by them (think of Pacific Rim, but without mechs to protect us). If not, it was a different universe that had a bunch of kaiju instead of just one like the original movie? Either way, this movie made it not matter. Hooray, multiverse!

The part that actually annoyed me was the water-in-the-room scene. I was pretty drunk and that particular scene made me suspend my disbelief. It pointed to a writing team who didn't actually research how things would behave in space.

I could get past the whole "where's there gravity coming from?" and they at least addressed the severed arm / worms bit as not making any sense, so it sort of fit... but water in space has a documented behavior pattern that they ignored for a cheap special effect.

2018-02-05 12:00:09 PM
I liked it.  It would have been good as a series instead of packing all that into a movie.  That last 3 seconds, though...wtf?

2018-02-05 12:14:36 PM

rcain: Oh ffs. It's a basic principal called suspension of disbelief. And they seemed to lack any understanding of it

There was a ton of that in the first one too.  The one that sticks out in my mind most was the girl they find impaled completely through her abdomen by a piece of reinforcement bar about an inch in diameter and she's sprinting down the road minutes later.

EighthDay: The part that actually annoyed me was the water-in-the-room scene

The way I understood it is the room that flooded was interlinked with the space station from earth #2 that crashed into the ocean. Both stations were existing in the same place at the same time.

So I can suspend disbelief for the water flooding in... I didn't get where it came in, but okay, sure, the room is flooding, but when it collapsed the hull and the hatch opened, the whole room shouldn't flash-freeze. Water in space flash-boils and freezes... but not every particle of water is being exposed to outside the hull simultaneously. The instantaneous frozen room of ice all the way through the interior portal is what bugged me.

2018-02-05 02:24:38 PM
That was terrible. And just what the hell did the A story have to do with Cloverfield? It's like they realized they had a turd on their hands and nailed on a cameo of the monster (and a ten-times normal sized one) at the end to hop on the Cloverfield money train.

2018-02-05 02:47:30 PM
Its amazing how many people don't understand how the movie ties in with the others. It's easy to deduce...Also amazing how many people think other dimensions is some kind of documented scientific fact. they arent, so they can make any rules they farking want. Jesus wept.

2018-02-05 02:50:01 PM
The movie was smart in places and it had its moments.  There's room within the Cloverfield universe for them to elaborate on how/why the use of the particle accelerator accesses the parallel universe.  If you take it at face value, it was an acceptable movie.  After "Cloverfield 4" releases in October, they need to have a movie that ties up all the loose ends with all the movies.

Oh I'm poorly traveled? And I think Americans are uniquely stupid?

Excuse me, but I'm pretty well travelled, and for the longest time have been in strong agreement with Einstein's theory of the Infinite Depth of Human (as in all humans not just the American genus) Stupidity

But hey -- thanks for the insults and the wild assumptions and asinine statements

And yeah -- FLUBBING FARKING DIMENSIONS
How hard is to understand than dimensions are not a farking place but a thing?
Is this not taught at an early age in basic science class while still learning things like basic arithmetic?
Seriously, how farking retarded do you have to be to not only not farking understand that dimensions aren't some farking alternate universe, but to go on and make your failure of an education the farking premise of your shiat-tier sci-fi flick?

But judging from the reaction I got for calling out this piece of shiat film for the factually wrong pile of shiat it is, I can only assume that this failure really resonated with people here. So for that I am sorry you got such a shiat-tier education and/or could not be bothered to pay attention in class
