That was probably one of the better non-political sketches on SNL in recent years.

i laughed really hard at it. the whole episode (minus the musical performances) was pretty good. the bizarre butt-for-a-face alien skit was just more than i expected from the skit. it kept getting weirder and i couldnt help but keep busting up. and Portman's new rap was farking spectacular. loved they brought that back.

Boy, I've never seen a joke die harder than the Dunkin Donuts joke.

Yeah, it is funny how that on totally died, but the Wawa one got a laugh from most.

Also, as one could have predicted, tonight proved once again

Fey > Dratch

It seems like the black guy -- sorry, I don't know the SNL cast -- got nervous and mangled his setup line, and tried to rescue it by jumping straight to the punchline. But whatever the punchline was -- and I'm still not sure -- he mangled that, too.

"It's good right? I feel like I should, like... I should go like a sweetbread. Like, very sweet."

Poor guy. If he had dropped an F-bomb instead, at least I'd probably know his name now.

I think his name was supposed to be Duncan and they were setting up the invention of Dunkin Donuts, but the audience didn't catch on.  I don't know if he mangled it or just realized it fell flat and ended it quickly.

The Battle of Bunker Hill - Despite inflicting heavy casualties on the British, the colonial forces were forced to retreat, leaving the British in control of the Boston penisula.

The New England Patriots were bragging about a loss.

Hey, Captain Thomas Brady got them 500 yards into British Territory... that has to count for something!

Ah, there it is. The joke was broken from its outset. Having it introduced with "the coffee is from Duncan/Dunkin" was a little too ambiguous for people that had grasped the premise of the skit already. (I thought the "Thanks, Dunkin" line was a 4th wall break/shoutout to the company for throwing some sponsor dollars their way.) It needed to be "We got this coffee from our man Duncan." Or have Duncan acknowledge his introduction at his entrance-- "Aw, you're welcome, guys!"

Once it was clear that his *name* was Duncan, then his sweet bread line would make sense. But even then, he botched it. His line was probably something like "Next, I'm going to try making a sweetened bread..." Even then, "sweet bread" is a problem for anybody that knows what sweetbreads are. It needed to be "frosted bread."

But really, the whole "sweet bread" joke was unnecessary. Either you got the Dunkin/Duncan joke at the outset, in which case the "sweet bread" joke was just lampshading it, or you didn't (maybe you weren't aware of the regionalism of DD), but then the "sweet bread" joke was too oblique to clear it up. It would have been better for him to just show up, say "Thanks, guys" and exit.
