Illegal pot is the problem, so maybe we should legalize it nationwide already?

Things seem to be working out fine everywhere it's been legalized, other than people complaining about how many people are now moving to those states.  But we complained about people moving here before it was legal, so that's not really much of a change.

Hmm. Perhaps this will lessen the population some, which will help ease up the housing market and lower prices so I can finally move out there.

I say: Smoke your marijuana!!!!

Oregon and Colorado track the stuff from seed-to-sale. Not sure what California's problem is.

Oregon will track marijuana from seed to sale using RFID tags

That why weed should be grown on flat land or in greenhouses, ideally hydroponically. Get it off the hills as an illegal crop and into legit places to grow it.

OOGAH-BOOGAH-BOOGAH!  You people aren't being scared enough!

Debbil's Weed is BAD!  It steals bread and milk from the infant children of Alcohol and Tobacco executives!

/Tell ya what sport, let's us just as a nation cut our Almond intake in half and repurpose Californian agricultural resources.  Problem solved.
//Wait, let's also make pot legal nationwide, and shoot all the tobacco executives.  NOW, problem solved.
///Third slashie is out back toking up.

fusillade762: Not sure what California's problem is.

According to TFA it's people illegally growing pot for export to prohibitionist states.

Oh. Far out. So we get our water back?

From TFA:

"The origin of the poison? Likely an illegal cannabis grow operation in the wilds of Northern California."

Gee, can anyone think of a solution to this problem?

No?

I know for a fact the weed I buy is grown here in Washington. It's printed on the package's label. I can choose indoor or outdoor grown weed at some shops too.
So yeah, I'm not hurting California in any way, shape or form.

Of all the ecological and environmental problems California faces, I'm pretty sure marijuana is pretty low on the list. Air pollution. Water pollution. Rapid loss of habitat. Droughts. Fires. Garbage. The 94 Superfund sites. The list goes on and on. Pot probably doesn't even register on the radar right now.

They're just trying to open the door for big tobacco to get in they are already changing small details in growing regs to facilitate it. :/ As usual our best remedy are grass root movements

It's the illegal grow operations that are the problem. As has been stated from the top of this thread, prohibition is what has caused this to run amok.

I believe the way to solve this is to repeal prohibition, regulate it, tax it, and focus law enforcement efforts on ridding the land of the problem growers rather then sending the end user to jail for a substance less harmful than beer.

And for what it's worth, the environmental impact from a plant growing in my backyard is probably not destroying the planet.

/organic fertilizer only
//no pesticides of any kind
