If Maria Menounos were, in some way, related to the NFL and they had some interest in promoting her book, I'd almost "get it."

But she's not.

It's especially disturbing because the author, Maria Menounos, emceed the event.
I can't believe they allowed her to distribute the book.

I had to google her. She's a professional wrestler? Or is this a different person?

Yeah, that's what I got too. I thought maybe she was a sportscaster or something, maybe somebody who was going to be covering the Superb Owl. But... nope.

I don't know if this is better or worse than the women's summit being represented entirely by men.

I'm going to admit that I just finished inventory, it's Friday, and I have a massive headache.  But, that being said, why is it bad she distributed the book if she emceed the event?  Use small words.

I think she used to host Entertainment Tonight (with Mario Lopez?)
I also think she was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor which is why she left the show

It's still not a good look.  They're there for a football summit.  If any of her books make sense to distribute it would be the diet and fitness book, and even that is more than a little condescending.

Because the NFL sponsored the event and it's tone deaf.
Maybe like the halftime performers she doesn't get paid and struck this deal with her. Still, not a good look or publicity.

And if she has no real connection to the NFL, how does she get that gig?
There are a million female NFL reporters there that probably would have been happy to do it.

2018-02-02 03:59:05 PM
I wasn't happy with all the hyping from ESPN about some guy doing the "halftime show" for the college football title game this year. That is what marching bands are for, use them.

Not particularly on topic, I know, but seeing that little thing about cooking made me think of how much I'm dreading the encroachment of "Who is the halftime show" and "What food will be there" questions not keeping a healthy distance from what I like. At least I won't have to deal with people talking about commercials.

An actual thing pertinent to "women's issues": We had another issue at work today with a particular woman who is physically unable to deal with certain aspects of the job and claims she doesn't want "special treatment" yet doesn't take kindly to being asked how much she will pay others to do her job for her. Also, she has run to superiors in the past when people have refused to do the job she said she was capable of doing when she signed up which makes others the bad guys by default because for all of the higher ideals that make Human Resources a good thing overall it also permits the existence of and coddles people like her.

I truly enjoy knowing that the safety of others is placed at risk for the sake of "equality" so that people can pat themselves on the back about how much better they're making the world, it warms my heart. Ugh, just saw the "women's issues" thing in the headline and figured it'd be better to vent here than to do what I would like to do or say what needs to be said directly to her.

Justin Timberlake has no connection to the NFL yet he's playing the halftime show. Didn't the NFL produce a show where players played music and rapped not that long ago? Why not hire them?

I'm not seeing the oddity of the NFL hiring a professional female host to host a woman's summit.

USCLaw2010: Why is there a women's summit at the super bowl in the first place ? It's a football game not a political nomination convention

Well, I'd say that part of it is the larger head trauma issue. If you can make and keep female fans of football that means down the road you're helping to ensure that you have a supply of players. Dad may not want his son to play football but if mom puts her foot down it really won't happen. I realize you weren't really going in that direction but it is the first thing I thought of and not that there weren't "women's summits" or what have you prior to head trauma becoming a national conversation but blah blah blah.

It has to be weird being a woman and a fan of football when you see the marketing directed towards you with the pink jerseys and the women's camps with college football. I'd probably understand that at least the intentions are good but I'd also be pretty annoyed that I'm being treated differently in the first place when I most likely wouldn't want that.

Was it the Red Sox who started that pink hat crap? They're the first ones I remember, though at least in my head the breast cancer thing seems to have taken over and it isn't just a "cute hat" aimed at women anymore. Maybe?

I'll be here all day bringing up things only tangentially related to the topic at hand, you're welcome.
